Further to my below critique I am pleased to revise my review as follows....::- I received a phone call from the manager Ferdi who apologised for our previous bad experience and stated that they'd had some challenges with the kitchen staff that day and would like to invite us back to the restaurant to give them a chance to make amends as customer satisfaction meant evetything to them. We agreed and went back for lunch on Sunday 8th June 25. We were given a similar table and once again the view and ambiance was outstanding. We ordered a focacia for a starter which was lovely and crispy and had just the right amount of garlic and herbs and was enjoyable. For the mains I once again ordered the Calamari tubes and tentacles and triple cooked chips. The calamari tubes and tentacles were nicely battered, very tasty and tender and the chips crispy on the outside and soft inside. Ate the lot and loved it. My wife ordered the flame grilled sirloin steak and veg. The steak was cooked just as ordered, very tasty and so tender it could have been fillet. My wife was also impressed with the creamed spinach which was homemade. Overall we had a truly amazing lunch and were very pleased wiith everyhing and can honestly now recommend this restaurant to all. To Ferdi and the staff thank you for going the extra mile and kudos to you for listening to your customers and making things right. We will definitely be regulars after our latest experience so thank you.... PREVIOUS CRITIQUE BELOW NOW RESCINDED. Went for lunch on Sunday 31st May 25, restaurant about 45% full. Were given a nice table on patio with great views. Ordered wine no problem then ordered lunch. I ordered the calamari tubes and tentacles and triple cooked chips and my wife a starter portion of the same with a main portion of hake and rice. After waiting for over an hour for our food, we enquired why it was taking so long. We were told they had two more customers to serve and ours would be another 20 mins. When the food came. It was dusted calamari rings, instead of calamari tubes and tentacles, and the chips were slap chips not triple cooked. My wifes hake was more oily batter than hake which was obviosly frozen. We asked why we were served calamari rings instead of the tubes and tentacles. We were told they had run out but during the 1 hr and 20 min wait nobody bothered to inform us. The food was awful and so salty, we left 50% of it. On complaining the manager, Angelo, apologised and said they would not be charging us for the food. We were thankful for this but our Sunday outing was spoilt. This is a beautiful setting but the owner needs to get his and his staffs act together. Worst experience so far on...
Read moreI was so glad to discover that there is a new restaurant (along with new owners/management) at this delightful venue - which is now thankfully called something else.
First and foremost, the service and approach of the staff met all our expectations.
Although the food flavor was satisfying, my burger and (slightly burnt) bun were disappointingly small; I substituted the accompanying chips for mash, but we all agreed that the helping could also have been more generous.
The overall attention to the presentation of all the meals, ie garnish, plate decoration, food arrangement, can show improvement.
The dessert menu strangely consists of a simple referral to a small Ola chest freezer (of the type you find in a little winkeltjie somewhere) that you pass on your way in and out of the dining area. One trusts that this is merely a temporary stopgap until they decide how to introduce a more proper and fitting range of sweets offers.
This new restaurant has all the necessary basic ingredients for a very successful future, and hopefully management will take customer suggestions seriously, see how other successful establishments are getting it right, and grow from strength to strength.
(One last important thing to add: the Google Maps name should be changed immediately - the old Weskusplek restaurant had an appalling reputation, and has no relationship with the new...
Read moreSome say Weskusplek some say Hungry Monk, all I know is, the reviews about good views, slow service and overpriced food, definitely true. The pics of the menus posted by other Guides, didn't look like mine, seems covid and the rising fuel price may have given life to these price hikes. Not sure if the concept of "catch of the day" is embraced correctly but here, local means you pay an arm and a leg. Catch was Kingclip, at R255 per portion and from what we were told, a very modest portion. It is the ONLY restaurant in town, so basically it's, take it or leave it. The waitrons were kind and friendly. The atmosphere is created by the fireplace but gets lonely when it's only you and two other tables but food takes longer than a standard average to arrive.
Food - Americana Pizza, R150. So much to be desired. The base was beautiful, thin crust and had the wood fired char. The tomato sauce was bland with no hint of even a little salt. The pepperoni was sliced so thin, you could barely taste it was meat. Overall, it was like eating overpriced cheese and toasted flat bread. Sure I could have added salt, there aren't any condiments on tables, that's a no no to salt and pepper. Sure I could have added toppings, R20 to add garlic lol 😅😭😱
Drinks - Iced tea and beer cost the same somehow 🤔😳
Value for money -...
