Cattle Baron Blouberg — Restaurant in Table View

My husband booked for a special dinner for us last night at 19pm and we are so disappointed in the bad service we received, especially after spending R975.

Firstly we ordered a bottle of wine and asked for ice (which the waitress forgot about) and eventually brought us but not once did she bring us fresh ice or topped up our wine during the 3 hours that we were there.

Secondly we then placed our starter snails and mains (Chateaubriand). We asked for a Rare fillet on a very hot plate. We waited for about an hour long and all of a sudden she brought us the mains, and completely forgot that we ordered starters. Then she wanted to leave us with the mains and bring our starters after the main? Not only was that a let down, the mains she served was a Medium Rare which is not what we asked for and everything was already cold. We sent the order back (which was clearly not ours) and then waited for our starters which arrived probably half an hour later.

Thirdly, once we finished our starters and received the correct Mains (Rare Chateau fillet) the brandy was lit but did not have any flames as expected and it was something we were looking forward to. The food was yet again cold as well as the plate. When I told the waitress that it is disappointing not having any flames, she said she thinks that they do not heat the plate much because it is a rare steak? But then why serve it as a Chateau and what about the hot plate that I asked for?

Disappointing Service Despite Great Food

I've been a regular customer, often calling ahead to book a table with my family or to place a takeaway order for collection. Unfortunately, my experiences over the past couple of months have been quite disappointing.

Last month, I called around 7 PM to bring my kids for dinner. I was told over the phone that the restaurant was full and that they couldn't accommodate children. Out of curiosity, I decided to drive by and was surprised to see several empty tables, yet we were still turned away.

On another occasion, I was told to order through Mr Delivery or Uber Eats. I tried this once, but the food arrived cold and in disarray, which is why I prefer to collect my order myself since I live nearby. Despite the earlier instruction, I drove to the restaurant and was able to place and collect my order without issue.

This evening, I called again to place an order and was met with an extremely rude response from Shaun, the manager on duty. He told me that the reception was holding up the queue and insisted I use delivery apps instead. His tone and lack of basic telephone etiquette were unacceptable. If phone orders are no longer welcome, perhaps the restaurant should consider removing its phone lines altogether.

While the food remains excellent—especially after the recent revamp—the attitude and treatment towards loyal customers have taken a serious dip. I truly hope management reconsiders how they engage with patrons...

I recently dined at Cattle Baron, Blouberg and it was an unforgettable experience from start to finish. The ambiance was warm and inviting, with a cozy yet upscale atmosphere that made me feel right at home. However, the real highlights of the evening were the exceptional steak and the outstanding service.

The steak was simply the best I've ever had. Cooked to perfection, it was tender, juicy, and bursting with flavor. The chef clearly knows how to bring out the best in quality cuts of meat, and the seasoning was spot on. Every bite was a delight, and I found myself savoring every moment of the meal.

Adding to the wonderful experience was our waitress (Michelle), who provided top-notch service. She was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. Her recommendations were spot on, and she made sure we had everything we needed throughout the evening without being intrusive. Her warm demeanor and professionalism added a personal touch that made our dinner even more enjoyable.
