Our family have supported The Wok House (previously Wok this Way) for over 25 years. As regulars at the restaurant we have always enjoyed the friendly atmosphere and good food. However, we have recently noticed a difference in the quality of the food and in particular the way they have treated us as clients. One of our favourite dishes is the Crispy Chilli Beef. One hot and one mild. As someone who really enjoys a hot chilli dish I have never had a problem with the spiciness of this meal. Last night we again ordered a mild and a hot option. While the mild was ok, the hot was inedible and immediately resulted in blisters in my mouth. Neither meals were “Crispy”, something else we have recently noticed. I phoned the restaurant and gave them a heads up that they needed to check this batch of hot crispy chilli beef. There was no evidence of chopped chilli’s in the meal as one normally finds and so I think that the cook just added an excessive amount of chilli oil over the hot option. No follow up from the restaurant to see that we were ok or to give an explanation. We followed up the next day and received this response “After reviewing the situation, we concluded that everything was handled in line with our policies. One item was ordered as hot and one as medium and both were prepared as requested. As a result, we’re unable to offer compensation”
As regulars who have supported this family business for over two decades, we are very disappointed in their response and judging by other reviewers, are not alone in...
Read moreThis was the second week in a row that we have been massively let down by this restaurant. Both times we ordered via UberEats. The first time we received an order with missing items and wrong items. UberEats confirmed that it was an error on the restaurant's side. With that meal the sweet and sour pork was over cooked and some of the doughballs didn't even have meat inside them. The highlight of the meal was the tasty veggie rice noodles. We ordered from this restaurant a week later in the hopes to have a positive experience but alas, this was by far the worst meal we've ever had from an asian restaurant. The crispy beef in chilli was inedible, completed overcooked and tough, the sauce had absolutely no chilli in it and was overly sweet. The sweet and sour chicken was also over cooked and tough. The egg fried rice was a huge disappointment. Very very dry rice with rubbery pieces of egg in it, absolutely no flavour to it. We ended up tossing the rice. The overall taste of all the food was very sweet, even the chicken chow mein tasted sweet with very little hint of soya to it. We have been customers of this restaurant for years and have recommended it to many people looking for tasty, good quality asian food. I don't know what happened over the past 2 weeks for this restaurant to be serving such poor quality food but I hope they can sort...
Read moreAs someone with Chinese heritage, I have to say that it's a shame that a restaurant serves such subpar quality food - a total insult to the Chinese Cuisine, food made from low grade ( frozen) ingredients and generic mass produced sauces. Even the Dunked Wings from KFC taste more authentic Chinese than everything we ate here. Not only is the menu so outdated from a bygone era, to make it worse, nothing we ordered tasted fresh, and the three of us all had stomachaches and diarrhea from the evening until the next day.
The steamed buns? They tasted like they were exhumed from an archaeological dig—centuries-old and as lifeless as mushy blobs. The pork? Let’s just say its flavor and texture were so questionable that even a lab rat would think twice. Even the non-alcoholic beer served was expired and the waitress said all the non-alcoholic beers of the same brand were expired, this just shows quality, freshness and food safety are not a priority of this restaurant.
The only positive thing was the friendly service but I won't recommend this...
