Absolutely love this place, the people are incredibly friendly and enthusiastic about their work, and the food is fantastic. Parking is easy, just outside the restaurant. Grab a number from the machine and patiently wait for your turn, it gets crowded during meal times. We came at 12 and waited about 15mins. Before sitting, you can order either the stir fried pork or stir fried squid (KRW15,000 per portion). We decided on the squid and was looking forward to their best seller - Hallasan Fried Rice 한라산볶음밥 (KRW3,000 per portion). We realised all the guys who were frying the rice for other tables had a story to go along with it, and we wondered if we could get the English version. Surprisingly, the guy we called could tell the Hallasan story in English (not perfect but really good enough). As he performed by throwing and catching the rice, cutting the seaweed and mint leaves at incredible speed and flattening the rice on the pan, he told the story of the famous Hallasan mountain. He pushed the rice to form a mountain and made a dent, calling it the crater forming the Oreum. Then he poured the egg all over and showed that there's no water in Hallasan now as a waterfall drained it away, while cutting the rice and literally draining the egg out of the crater. He then animatedly talked about the many other Oreums in Jeju while grouping the egg and cheese in mini humps. He even showed where Udo and Marado was by putting two smaller blobs of egg at the side. The entire experience was very enjoyable, especially since he attempted to do it in a language we could understand. I would definitely recommend anyone to come here for...
Read moreAbsolutely loved my experience at Poong Won Korean Restaurant! They serve some really unique pork and squid dishes that you don’t often see elsewhere.
The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful – they even assist you in cooking the dish right at your table, which made it feel both interactive and authentic.
After the main dish, we ordered fried rice, and they cooked it for us on the same pan, which added so much flavor.
While cooking, they shared stories about Hallasan and how Jeju Island was formed – such a nice personal touch that made the whole experience memorable.
Highly recommend this place if you’re looking for delicious food with warm service and a bit of culture...
