Meal budget per person (without drinks) Category 1 (under 60000 KRW, 50 USD)
This is the second brand of Mongtan, one of my favorite barbecue restaurants. Chowon accepts phone reservation, unlike Mongtan who does not receive the reservation (only accepts walk-in guests, so long waiting line for a few hours is common scene at lunch or dinner pick time.)
The restaurant specializes in Beef Sirloin, Grilled Beef Tripe and Beef Tongue.
Grilled Beef Sirloin (28,000 KRW): The texture and flavor is good. As it is slightly marinated with pepper and salt, the beef goes well with chili and garlic sauce which is harmonious with the sweet and salty taste. Marinated and Grilled Beef Tripe (22,000 KRW): It is well seasoned in a spicy sauce so it adds savory taste to the beef without greasy taste. Beef Tongue (22,000 KRW): It is my first time to try this ingredient. Contrary to my preconception, I am surprised by the excellent texture and flavor. Bean Paste Stew is umami with deep, rich and savory taste,

The premium beef melted in the grill, very flavourful on its own, and when added to their special made sauce and wasabi.
The beef intestine salad was very flavourful and well paired...

I am told this local Korean beef instead of US beef which is why it is rather expensive for small portions. There is no marinated meat here. The portion size for the price was my only disappointment but this because I didn't know what to expect. The fried rice was great and also a unique,...
