This is definitely best restaurant in Gangnam and one of the best Korean restaurants I have ever tried. Blessed be the previous patrons who recommended Hobo.
I am solo and when I learned that each table has to order two meat dishes, I thought I might be stuffed or I have to take away some.
The two portions of meat that I ordered - one marinated (galbi), the other unmarinated - cost less than 40,000 won. Last night, I tried the Korean fried chicken in another restaurant nearby - it was 21,000 for a generous plate. When the meats were served, their portions look intimating. But when they were grilled and cut, I immediately knew that I could finish them.
At the top of my experience was how the food were served. They would send a staff member to grill and cut the meats with full dedication. In my case, the staff members were Mai and Phuong from Hanoi. Mai did the grilling. Phuong served and taught me how to eat likeva local with the condiments - shiitake wasabi (brown in colour), fresh wasabi, basil pesto, pickled chili, and pickled garlic leaves.
In traveling, aren't we seek experience, to feel as if you are living like a native? If you think like me, this restaurant (Hobo) is the one you must come if you are in Gangnam.
Mr Psy will certainly tell you more about what Gangnam Style is. To me, in the culinary sense, Hobo is Gangnam Style.
P/S: Korean restaurants are great in the sense the price they advertise is the price you pay, not ++ with tax and service charge. In the case of Hobo, I would certainly suggest you to consider giving tips directly to the staff who serve you. And I hope the restaurant would let them keep the tips. Your staff are simply excellent. They can brighten a stressed, groomy or tiring...
Read moreI absolutely love Hobo Restaurant in Gangnam—it has quickly become my go-to spot whenever I visit Korea! Specializing in Korean barbecue, this place is truly a hidden gem where locals frequently dine, giving it that authentic, lively atmosphere I always seek out.
During my last visit, I ordered the garlic galbi, fried rice, and beef tartare. Each dish was exceptionally delicious. The garlic galbi stood out with its tender, perfectly marinated meat that was rich in flavor but not overwhelming. You can really tell the pork is incredibly fresh—juicy, flavorful, and cooked just right.
The fried rice was also outstanding—flavorful and well-balanced, a perfect complement to the barbecue dishes. The beef tartare was another highlight, impeccably seasoned and served fresh, providing a delightful contrast to the grilled meats.
Another thing that makes Hobo Restaurant stand apart is their attention to detail and excellent customer service. The staff consistently goes above and beyond to ensure every guest feels welcome and well-taken care of. Additionally, the assortment of side dishes (banchan) provided is fantastic, always fresh, flavorful, and abundant.
Given the high-quality food, exceptional service, and welcoming atmosphere, the pricing at Hobo is remarkably reasonable, especially compared to other Korean barbecue restaurants in the Gangnam area. It genuinely feels like you’re getting great value for the authentic dining experience provided.

Read moreI dined at Hobo Restaurant in Gangnam, Seoul today, and it was an exceptional experience. Nestled in the bustling heart of the city, Hobo blends modern elegance with a welcoming vibe. The minimalist decor, with soft lighting and warm wooden touches, created a cozy yet refined atmosphere. The menu was a masterful mix of Korean and global flavors. I began with their signature kimchi croquettes, perfectly crisp with a bold, tangy filling. For the main course, I savored the grilled hanwoo beef, expertly cooked with a smoky char and paired with a vibrant gochujang glaze that was simply divine. The banchan (side dishes) were fresh, colorful, and perfectly balanced, highlighting seasonal ingredients. The service was outstanding—staff were attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely enthusiastic, offering spot-on wine pairing recommendations. For dessert, the yuzu sorbet with honeycomb was a refreshing, sweet-tart delight. Every detail, from the stunning presentation to the explosion of flavors, was impeccable.
