Detako takes risks. As a former restaurant consultant, I advised strongly against this. Here, I would have advised to put the fish "operating table" clearly seen from the street and most tables, not up back. I would have advised closer table spacing, lower ceilings, and some small quality interest on the walls, and menu and a mural on the street wall. I would have advised not to offer straight sushi and sashimi ..otherwise, go full Japanese... but never mix.. "Fusion," I would say "too often is confusion." I would have been wrong! The meal we chose leaned heavily towards the Spanish end of the offerings. They were all really terrific. The highlight is an almond cream soup with smoked eel. It should find its way onto every table. The cervice is wonderful, as is the potentially-disastrous-but-totally-delicious tuna. It should be awash with too many flavours and elements, but it works its crazy butt off. The coconut panacotta is an absolute triumph. It's literally perfect. The chocolate cake needs a rethink, but it is the only bump in a slick superhighway of tastes and textures. The one waitress somehow manages to make herself known and wonderful as the restaurant fills. The whole team is full of more pride than Sydney's Mardi Gras. Is there anything better than a place that you believe shouldn't work but does, in a way, you'll never forget? Come here...
Read moreIf you are in La Herradura you have to eat at Detako!! In my opinion, it is one of the best restaurants in Andalucia and the food is exquisite, as is the service. It's rare to get a Michelin-grade experience at the reasonable prices they are charging, which no doubt accounts for the fact that it's always fully booked :) David and Elena are an exceptionally talented duo and everything that comes out of the kitchen is delicious and beautifully presented - the flavours are out of this world. The ceviche was definitely the best I've ever tried and the flavoured homemade popcorn was an inspired touch. We will definitely be back to try everything...
Read moreI can honestly say dining at Detako was one of the best meal I have ever had. The food is outstanding, and I loved the white wine Elena suggested (a particular one with a hint of salt, I don't remember the name). I really appreciated they recommended to share everything, we were a group of four and we've tried a good chunk of the menu. We've got not only an amazing service, but the atmosphere was cosy and friendly and both Elena and David took the time to chat, explain all the dishes and tell their story. A must go place, the care they have for what they do is unique. Can't wait to go back to Andalusia to stop...
