Restaurante Naveira — Restaurant in Baiona

On arrival one got the impression that Uk customers were not welcome, the maitre de completely ignored us because she could not converse with our minimal Spanish. Eventually a waitress seated us. The drinks selection was minimal but the important part, the menu was quite good. We chose paella obviously, what else in Spain? The meal was very average, it had obviously been cooked earlier and lacked any moisture but it was probably very good when it was originally cooked. It was quite tasty. Sadly the waitress failed to tell us the pan had been in the oven hence I received 2nd degree burns to my fingers, to add insult to injury when I commented on it she reached behind the bar for a well use tube of burn cream. Perhaps I wasn’t the first victim. The restaurant is well situated and quite modern, it desperately needs some staff training and a warning when a dish is too hot to handle. No puedo opinar sobre la calidad de su comida porque no la he llegado a probar. Fui ahí recomendado por un amigo que tiene un piso cerca de ahí. Vi las reseñas y la verdad es que casi todas son muy buenas. Pues fui al sitio acompañado y con perro, ya que había visto en fotos que tenía terraza. Llegados al restaurante veo que la terraza no estaba montada, tenían varias mesas apiladas y con una cadena. Entro al interior y había un camarero, le pregunto si habría posibilidad de comer fuera y que montasen una mesa ya que veníamos con perro y suponía que dentro no podría estar. Me dijo que sí, que no habría problema, pero que se lo iba a preguntar a alguien. Al momento se lo pregunta a una mujer que estaba allí, que saliendo al exterior, mira para el interior de un local anexo diciendo que se llevaron las sillas de la terraza, diciéndome que no era posible montar mesa en la terraza. Pues bueno, le dije, no hay problema, dejo el perro en el coche y venimos ahora. Íbamos de camino al coche, estacionado en la carretera principal de Baiona, que es donde está el restaurante Naveira, cuando a los pocos metros de iniciar la marcha a mi acompañante se le ocurre que podría ponernos dos sillas de las que tenían en el interior ya que el problema era la falta de sillas. Pues bien, fue ella de vuelta al restaurante, le comentó esta opción a la presunta responsable del restaurante y su contestación fue que "ERAN DEMASIADO BUENAS PARA PONER EN EL EXTERIOR", ante lo que mi acompañante le dijo que la terraza estaba cubierta, que no se estropeaban, (ni que fuesen las sillas donde se sienta el papa), respondiéndole que "TODAS ESAS MESAS ESTABAN RESERVADAS". Ojito que cuando yo entré en el restaurante para ver si podían montar mesa fuera, en el interior no había ninguna mesa ocupada, ninguna es ninguna. Tan solo había dos personas mayores que estaban de pie pero por la impresión no me parecía que estuviesen esperando mesa porque como acabo de decir, todas las mesas estaban vacías. Ante esta contestación que le dieron a mi acompañante por supuesto que descarté comer ahí, ni hoy ni nunca. Como servicio y atención es una P. M. Sí, una P. M. es una P. M. Por muy buena que sea la comida se la pueden meter por donde la espalda pierde su nombre y más cuando al pasar con el coche por delante del restaurante vi que la puerta ya estaba cerrada, por qué?? Porque no tenían ni dios. Recomendable?? Ni de coña. Antes comer pan duro...

We were turned away on a Saturday night at 8:15 pm despite the restaurant being completely empty. We were told everything was reserved. This was in sharp contrast to our previous night of being welcomed in multiple restaurants just around the block on a Friday night, where the friendly staff moved tables and gave us free snacks and welcomed us in crowded spaces. It was unsettling to think that this place was anti-American or anti-Asian or what. We returned at 10pm thinking maybe they were hosting an event that meant they couldn’t have hosted us, and in fact they were still half empty.
