Really good, a heaven if you like japanese culture. The place itself is special, thereâs no spot to look at that isnât decorated with something japanese.
The best idea is picking one of those menu dishes, you eat a lot for less price. Everythingâs a bit expensive so thatâs the best way to go.
We ordered takoyaki, donburi misokatsudon, okonomiyaki and chocolate taiyaki and strawberry daifuku for desserts. The takoyakis were amazing, didnât really tase like octopus but were good, and that sauce was really good. The misokatsudon was good, not so amazing (was like others Iâve had or even made at home) and we had a problem with it: part of the rice had wasabi (an obvious mistake) and was horrible to eat. The okomiyaki was amazing, ours had lots of ingredients and that made it a lot better. Is a very special taste that you should try. The chocolate taiyaki was good but had less chocolate than expected and itâs cute but itâs like eating an expensive waffle with chocolate in a fish shaped form. The strawberry daifuku wasnât the best Iâve had (in fact was the worst one right after the ones I tried to make). It was very sticky (something that from the start we didnât like) and the strawberry wasnât really good either.
My honest opinion: if you donât mind paying a bit more, go ahead and try the okonomiyaki and takoyaki, but donât ever waste your money on...
Read moreThis is a lovely authentic Nagoya-style Japanese restaurant, and the staff were very friendly and attentive, super responsive and giving lots of great care throughout our meal.
We had an amazing experience here! The takoyaki (octopus balls) was perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, just like it should be. The okonomiyaki (Japanese savory pancake) was delicious, with a great balance of flavors and texture. The tonkatsu don (pork cutlet rice bowl) was comforting, and the tender pork paired wonderfully with the egg and sauce. We also loved the unagi don (grilled eel rice bowl), the eel was so flavorful! The dorayaki (sweet red bean pancake) and taiyaki (fish-shaped cake filled with sweet red bean paste) were perfect desserts, so sweet and satisfying.
As a winter seasonal treat, the honey lemon ginger tea (seasonal) was absolutely delightfulâwarm, soothing, and perfect for the cold weather. I highly recommend everything here! Such a great spot for Japanese...
Read moreIf you want to take a culinary trip to distant Japan, you couldn't have chosen a better place. I love Japanese cuisine and believe me, Yatai is a very nice, small place serving various Japanese snacks and main courses. Everything is prepared on the spot with fresh ingredients. The portions are just right, they are not huge, not small either, but I can assure you that you will not leave hungry. I recommend trying the Japanese pizza, which I had never even heard of before hanging out at Yatai. It's made using eggs, cabbage, some flour plus a filling, all topped with a sauce that's a little reminiscent of Teriyaki in flavour plus flakes of dried cod. I chose the squid and prawn option and it was a hit. For an appetizer I took the already known takoyaki: fried balls with octopus in batter. It is also worth noting the decor, which is dominated by characters from manga and other Japanese cartoons, which makes your culinary journey to Japan even...
