I love Restaurante Las Espirillas, or as it’s known locally “Ramon’s” (after the owner). It’s roadside location doesn’t look too appealing from the road, but when you’re at a table looking out at the hills, mountains and beautiful village of Canillas de Albaida, everything makes sense.
There are plenty of tables outside, both under cover and in the sun, and there’s a tapas bar inside, along with more tables and chairs.
The beer on draught is San Miguel, and the are bottled beers, wine & spirits too. The prices for drinks are very reasonable, and the measures generous.
It’s very much a locals bar, in as much as it’s well frequented by people who live in the village, Spanish, Dutch, English and other nationalities. The mood of the place is friendly, casual & homely/rustic, and there is also a private dining room for more formal occasions.
The food is good too. It’s reasonably priced, freshly cooked and as well as items from the menu, they have daily specials that are well worth trying. The food isn’t overly complicated or fancy, but it’s tasty and is cooked and served quickly. As always, the menu del dia is an absolute bargain.
Ramon and his small team work really well together, and at times the place can get very busy, but your patience will be rewarded. Also, if you’re not a native Spanish speaker, a few basic phrases will stand you...
