El Muelle — Restaurant in Ceuta

I give it 4 stars only because of the presentation. While most tapas are casual fare, there can be a lot of ways to present dishes and having been in Spain travelling I’ve come across some truly excellent and very imaginative tapas presentation. The interior is very rustic and accommodating. On a Saturday the terrace was very lively and entirely booked so be aware that we saw a multitude of people get turned away. Seating inside was an option for us so we took it. Most patrons were very well dressed.

While I maybe somewhat critical of the presentation aspect, the flavors were balanced and very good. We ordered “calamari a la plancha” , “tortillitas camaron” , “sardinas anchoadas” and finally “pulpo gallega”

All the dishes were delicious with the exception of the sardinas. They were rather plain and required imagination but once paired with bread the subtle umami of the pickled sardine with the tomato was unlocked. The tortillitas were crispy and in parts soft with hints of shrimp and various aromatic fillings and very good. The octopus “pulpo” was excellent and should always considered on a visit there. It was delicious. The grilled squid I’d say was a masterpiece. While it was rather simple with just a grilled sliced squid with slices of tomato on a bed of romain on the side of it, the squid itself was noticeably fresh with subtle hints of herbs and seasonings.
