Went in for dinner only to be met by strange looks as if I was mad asking to dine at 11 PM on a Saturday, when the restaurant is busy and I asked in the most polite way…In Spain this is a very common time at a weekends. I then asked if I could buy a couple of eggs at least and asked for a beer as it was obviously a complicated question and had already been waiting 5 minutes. I did ask for 3 cans of beer to take away like nearly all bars and restaurants but they said they didn’t sell any, even though there was a can on one of the tables(their answer was that he must of bought it somewhere else…🤥👻 I had stated that I was with my son but still waited for over 10 minutes to be questioned by a very rude man, what I wanted, again I explained that I was with my 9 year old and could he please sell me 2 eggs. He answered that all cooks where in bed 🧐 and that they are not a shop. Totally unnecessary comment specially when I’m already spending money in his business and had me waiting by then 15 minutes. I proceeded to tell him that I thought he was being very hostile and I obviously knew it wasn’t a shop, as it clearly indicates what it is, so felt he was being over aggressive, told him and then he changed to “I can give you 2 eggs” 🤯 by then I only wanted to get out of there as I felt he wasn’t the full ticket. I had the beer that I was overcharged and still gave a tip for nearly full and the rude owner told me to drink up then and get out. Unbelievable behaviour. By the way the next place I tried despite it being later by at least 20 minutes thanks to this unhinged man, I was given 6 eggs despite asking for 2 and 3 hamburgers, and the owner of the restaurant in the town square( totally recommendable) wouldn’t even accept any money for anything…what polarised attitudes. The good thing is that thanks to the last place at least my son saw that grownups aren’t all unfriendly and threatening. As he was glaring at me when 2 foot away for what seemed an eternity ( but probably 1 or 2 minutes) while I finished my beer. Stay clear...

But that doesn't mean they have let their standards slip.||The rooms are small but have ensuite, WiFi and TV and are kept spotlessly clean. Violeta and Carlos are excellent hosts and Violeta speaks fluent English. We arrived for a 10 day climbing trip only to discover that the guidebook was out of print so Violeta lent us the hostal copy for the whole of our stay.||Breakfast is at any time you want it between 9.00am and 11.00am and the evening meal - 3 courses with beverage of your choice, and extremely good quality - is between 8.00pm and late. The menus were presented to translated into English, so there was never any doubt about what we were getting.||This is rural village Spain, so don't expect the Hyatt Regency, but having set those expectations, you won't be disappointed. My thanks to everyone at El Pozo. I will...
