San Poul — Restaurant in Consuegra

There is not a wide choice of accommodation in Consuegra, and we plumped for this inexpensive hotel with its own restaurant, as we expected (correctly) that everything else would be closed on an autumnal sunday evening. ||We entered throught the bar, with its unpromising scatter of litter on the floor and men watching football. But the attendant was friendly enough and showed us to a room at the front of the hotel overlooking the dull street. (Rooms at the back may have a more interesting outlook - or not!). The fittings and bathroom were all a bit tired but functional, with a decent double bed.||We had booked ahead for media pension and sat alone in the restaurant, though staff were friendly and welcoming despite being kept at work just for us. Food was tasty and warming - judias con jamon, Ciervo, wine, dessert... And very good value at 36 euros per person media pension. Breakfast in the bar was basic but fresh - we had to wait while someone went out to buy bread. No...

So it all happened like this, we got stranded in Consuegra as we missed the last bus service to Toledo. After some attempts of hitchhiking which failed; we started consulting locals about the possibilities to reach Toledo. We then just decided to head back into the town of Consuegra. We found San Poul Hostel on booking.com and immediately booked it as we walked towards Consuegra. Even better we were welcomed with a warm welcoming smile and restaurant was opened for us as we wished to have dinner. The gentleman at the front desk was very friendly despite we not knowing spanish and he not knowing English. Nevertheless, we managed to understand each other.
