Basta! — Restaurant in Dénia

Our experience in Basta was so bad I actually reported the restaurant to aesan (Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition) it was the first time ever I did something like that and I would never take such measures but 3 of us got really sick after. I went there with my sister and friends and their kids. Two of us ordered lunch menu that was one unedibale. One of those people was my sister who was taking the flight back home the same evening alone with her daughters (4 and 5). She ended up vomiting in plane's toilet 30 times during the flight and scaring her kids to death, with one of them also feeling very sick (and only eating from kids menu at the restaurant-very different food she did). My sis only had few bites of her food, other friend had none ,as it was so bad. I ordered the starter with salmon and was told it will be raw. I got fancy looking plate with smoked salmon ,watermelon and mango all three tasting exactly the same as if it was all super old and treated with some disgusting sauce (I also got sick after) In my opinion it's very difficult to ruin the salmon dish, as even the cheap one always tastes decent, but they somehow managed to do it. After our complaints that was actually the only dish taken off our bill as if they knew the products were not fresh (we never asked for discount or said we won't pay!) My husband ordered a burger with medium done meat and got a raw one (again if we wanted to eat steak tartare we would go for higher quality meat, not a burger one) We of course paid our bill and ended up all receiving the cake as an apology, but it just made the restaurant look worse, with cake being old and dry with the mint leafes that were almost brown from being so old (and mint leafes keeping fresh forever!). I'm giving one additional star for the waiter who was very polite and apologetic to us about the whole experience,even not being super friendly, he kept it very professional ;and the location that is very nice. We live in Denia and will never go back there and also will warn all our friends not to do so! Worse experience in Denia, being misled by good reviews. ...

Once again, we enjoyed an amazing lunch at Basta and Menno and the team looked after us in the most spectacular fashion!

The menú del día is always stunning and the menu continues to offer delicious, imaginative, beautifully presented spectacular food.

As always Menno and his team have given us the most memorable lunch to celebrate my stepfather’s 97th birthday. These guys don’t just raise the bar, they set the bar and then raise it again.

Several Sunday visits to Basta and it is still excellent. If you want. a thriving and atmospheric Sunday lunch/early dinner this is the place to be. Most weekend, in season and out of season, Basta is full to the brim and I would advise booking a table in advance. The food menu provides a variety of choice and overall it is pretty good considering the amount. of tables they have to service. Sunday lunch is accompanied by tried and tested bands that will get you at least foot tapping...unless you've overindulged...then you'll be up throwing some shapes!!! Table service is also very good considering the horde of people they have to deal with. A superb Sunday lunchtime for friends and family to enjoy. We will be back...
