I had a very disappointing experience at the airport when I approached a man at the stand to ask about vegetarian options and what was in the empanadas. I thought it was a simple inquiry, but he was extremely rude and refused to speak to me in English. When he finally did respond, he said, "Oh my God," in a harsh tone and started swearing in Spanish.
He didn’t want to explain such a simple question, and after waiting in a long line, I was very hungry. His horrible service made me lose my appetite, and I decided I didn’t even want to eat there anymore. I told him he was very rude for not speaking to people like that. I noticed he was much nicer to Spanish-speaking customers before me, and it was clear he was disrespectful to me simply because I wasn’t Spanish.
If I’m not Spanish, how am I supposed to know what’s inside the empanada, especially since I am vegetarian? I just wanted clarification because the menu was a bit confusing. This experience really put me off Barcelona, and if you’re working in an airport, you should provide good service. The empanadas were good in taste but when I got home, in the middle of the night stomach ache woke me up and I felt dizzy. He served us and was really unpleasant (maybe we interrupted his Candy Crush session) but then just left the shop alone for a solid 20 minutes.
