Restaurante Bar Jamón — Restaurant in El Puerto de Santa María

We stopped in for lunch at the bar (where you can order tapas as opposed to dining room, where it’s at least half legion orders) and were pleasantly surprised with everything we tried. Grandma’s stew (Berza de la Abuela) reminded me of a hearty pozole-style soup. It was delicious! Megrim fish (Gallo empanado) is a solid breaded fish choice. Comes with fries and a small salad Iberian acorn-fed ham (Jamón ibérico de Betolla) tasted better than some 5J hams we’ve tried in other places Grilled Boston shoulder steak (presa de paleta ibérica) was juicy and tasted perfect. The tapa size is much bigger than we anticipated. We also tasted the avocado and prawn tartare (TarTar de aguacate y Langostinos) and were not disappointed. We are everything so fast, that this was the only dish I remembered to take a picture of.

The service was excellent, with detailed descriptions of the dishes and very attentive staff. The atmosphere was calm and family-friendly.

However, the dining experience was horrific. Both dishes ( oxtail and fried egg with potatoes) had "HAIR" in them, and the only thing I could eat was fries because the food tasted so unpleasant. Unfortunately, this was my first and last visit to this restaurant. Highly not recommended, negative dining experience.

**Updated: In response to the restaurant owner, who doesn't know how to accept constructive and realistic criticism. The food WAS returned. And to his surprise, the eggs and potatoes my underage son ordered were raw, with unsanitary parts. Again, I do not recommend this restaurant, which does not meet sanitary standards. I met up with a group of ladies for my first visit to this restaurant. We grabbed a drink at the bar around 8pm before heading to our table in the restaurant. We ordered a bunch of tapas for everyone to share and I must admit, most of it was delicious. If you like mushrooms and shrimp, don't skip out on the griddled mushrooms with king prawns “al Ajillo” style. It was superb. The wait staff was extremely helpful. The mixed drinks were poured strong, which is always a plus! I will definitely be returning for dinner here....
