La Paella Restaurante — Restaurant in es Mercadal

I would gladly give a 5 stars review to this restaurant, but sadly I will have to give a 4 star review based on miscommunication! We came to have lunch to this restaurant by accident on Friday and we loved the location, the staff and the paella negra… By the end of the meal we talked to the waiter to have lunch there again on Sunday to try the famous caldereta de langosta, but because we had other plans we didn’t book on the spot but called on Saturday to book for Sunday and discussed with the waiter! Upon calling them on Saturday, the waiter didn’t understood the request and they didn’t have the dish waiting for us on Sunday, even after we cancelled all other plans and traveled for almost an hour for the only reason to try their famous dish! I had been looking forward to trying authentic lobster paella all week as my wife has never had lobster. This restaurant has really nice views overlooking the beach and the bay which was great as it took 20mins to get a drink and an hour after ordering our salad starter came with brusqueness that you normally get when you're not a native. The starters were good but seriously didn't justify the wait. The mains which I was really looking forward to left me sad. The small, dry, overcooked lobster had less meat on it than a chicken nugget and was way overseasoned. The poor thing had died for nothing. On the plus side, the pizza the kids had was nice, though again the crispy calamari was like rubber. To be honest, I'm trying to find fault with La Paella.

Usually there is a compromise between location, price and service. Not my experience here. We ate from the set menu at €15pp, overlooking the beach and the service was fantastic.

The set menu was broad enough to satisfy most tastes. I had the moules to start - they were incredibly fresh and the sauce was delicious, my partner had the melon with ham. Huge portions and fresh. I had the swordfish - my only gripe with the whole meal would be that the steaks were a little thin, but this was the set menu so that's to be expected. Dessert was decent, but I was so full at that point I can't give a proper review!
