A total disappointment. We ate at Masala Estepona in the evening of Sunday 7th May, after enjoying a meal at Masala Elvira (Marbella) the week before, and I don't think I have ever been to such a disappointing restaurant. On first appearances the place should have been amazing with the Elephants outside and the nice interior decor and the place was relatively busy. We appreciated being bought 3 popadums, and ordered another 3 to make a starter as well as main courses and drinks. The popadums were nice enough (for the one star), but the Mango chutney was watered down slop as was the Raita. Before we had even finished the popadums somebody came and told us to hurry up because the main courses were coming!!! A Chicken Phal is meant to be spicy but mine was a brown gravy without any spice, texture or interest; the egg rice served with it was tasteless and overcooked. My partner had ordered a Chicken Tikka Masala and was served chicken pieces in a liquid flourescent orange sauce, again without the slightest hint of spice or texture. She said the naan was OK. We got up to leave, and were totally ignored until we got to the till. We weren't even asked how the meal was, because the staff must have already known the response (serving a main course within 3 minutes of ordering should tell you something!). How the place can garner so many positive reviews is a complete mystery to me - have you ever eaten a curry? We won't be back, we can eat far better across the road at Cabana; or go a little up the road to India House for a far, far, far...
Read moreDisappointing meal , we've been here before and I rated it five stars saying it was the best tandoori Mix grill I've ever had ,Well I would be surprised if anything I had that evening actually touched a tandoor oven ,it was bland ,no Charing and lacked flavour ,it also came up very quick which always sends alarm bells.
My daughter had tandoori king prawns which we've had before and they're normally lovely, tender ,butterflied and packed full of flavour ,but to be honest I could've cooked better at home and saved myself €22.
Onion bajees were tiny and not worth the money.
Naan bread was thin and smaller then usual.
Service was also lacking, I'm sure we used to get a complimentary drink at the end of the meal but it never arrived, no towels at the end of the meal to clean up ,and just not as attentive as they should be.
All in all the meal was Very disappointing and didn't live up to previous meals we've had there ,especially when your commanding high price's. Some work needs to be done if you want customers to return. I've updated my rating to reflect our...
Read moreSince my last visit the restaurant has gone through a massive renovation so not only is it the best place for a curry it’s also the most stylish, upmarket Indian restaurant I have ever been in, it’s absolutely beautiful and helps make the dining experience exceptional.
I eat here regularly with my friends and we know our currys, this is up there with the best we have ever had, even better than our favourite restaurants in the UK , if you want the best curry on the Costa look no further than Masala, I have many favourites but the food I tend to order regularly is the Stuffed Tandoori mushrooms to start that are just amazing followed by a Chicken Jalfrezi - the restaurant always adds extra chillies for me as I like it super super hot, they will vary the meal to suit your tastes nothing is too much trouble. The staff are fantastic friendly...
