We first tasted Mayuri’s food in 2019 when she had a food stall in Estepona - this is still one of my fondest sushi (maybe even food in general) memories.
Fast forward to 2025, she has a restaurant tucked away in town…and let me tell you, it did not disappoint on expectations. Sadly, Mayuri was not here when we visited this time but her staff were excellent. The chef was a perfectionist and took extreme care with every dish and the hostess was friendly and observant.
We had so much otoro because it’s not often you get access to such high quality fish in abundance and at a reasonable cost. We also had the caribineri prawn roll, which was the dish that stole my heart all those years ago and some other dishes.
What actually stood out for me however was the house made pickled ginger. Most Japanese places have the standard pre made one which all taste the same but here it is house made an so incredibly tasty and fresh…wonderful. We had many helpings!!
What a gem of a restaurant…I wonder if the locals know how lucky they are to have this place on their doorstep. I’ve told all my friends who live in the area to make it a regular!! I...
Read moreUPDATE 4-4-24 We went again, after a long while. They’ve rebuild the place and went for a minimal vibe and some small things don’t seem finished yet 😉 Food just as good, a little more besides sushi (good for me, I don’t eat sushi), but it seemed pricier, so their trying to upscale it.
We tried to call them to make a reservation, cause on the fork (on Wednesday), it said it would be fully booked on Thursday, in the beginning of the evening. But when we called it was the wrong nr!? When we checked it with the restaurant, the nr was correct weirdly enough!? And they don’t have a website, so it’s a bit hard to reach 😉 On Thursday eventually we could book again luckily. PS the pulpo was really nice! 😍 and the edamame were more special last time 😉
Great gem we found on Google Maps 😆 My girlfriend had sushi, really good she said, and I had the Yakisoba, really good and fresh too. The edamame’s were the best we’ve had so far. Just a small thing to improve is the choice in non alcoholic beverages.
The service was really friendly and fast. We...
Read moreAfter writing a review and receiving a horribly rude reply I thought I'd change my review. After living in China, Bénin, Kazakhstan, and Slovakia over the past decade I moved to Estepona a month ago. Since sushi is one of my favorite foods I was thrilled to be introduced to a sushi place that came highly recommended. A new work colleague I met for the first time that evening made the reservation. I'm still not used to Spanish time. I arrived on time and stood outside waiting for her to arrive late.
The restaurant is trying to be upscale but is not there (yet?). The prices do not reflect the service, menu quality, or ambiance. Three stars for it's okay. The food was okay. The service was okay. The atmosphere was okay. It's an okay sushi place.
I do appreciate their recommendation suggesting I can find a better sushi place in Madrid. Thanks! I'll look for one whenever I visit.
I've met nothing but lovely people here in Estepona and I've had some truly amazing dining experiences, this...
