GURE ETXEA JATETXEA eta TABERNA — Restaurant in Getxo

The menu is only available in Spanish, the waiter tried to explain the dishes, but it was very hard to communicate with him. What we found extremely negative is his pushing and selling dishes to us, although we have already decided what to eat. This paired with his bad English skills resulted in us two getting 2(!) appetizers for two persons, which doesn't make sense to be honest- we had ordered one and he kept pushing and explaining as if the second one was the addition to our main course. He recommended us great wines though.

The food itself... They strive to position themselves as a fine dining establishment, which with time it will definitely be... BUT! The meat served was of excellent quality, but the details and lastly the charcoal burned aroma of what they considered to be something extra ruined the whole meat experience. The aroma was so overwhelmingly present it stayed in the nose and was just off on the palate. The fish and clams were also good, but my boyfriend had stomach ache (+something else) starting in the night and the whole day after that and had to stay in the hotel room. The Tuna-tartare was amazingly good 👍

While some dishes were amazing by itself, they try to overengineer and fancy them up. I hope they find that...

El restaurante es precioso y muy acogedor. Todo estuvo de 10, el aperitivo fue pan tostado con crema de queso y salmón marinado casero, que estaba riquísimo. Empezamos con una ostra Daniel Sorlut, muy fresca y riquísima. Pedimos una ensalada de tomate con ventresca y cebolla, el tomate tenia un sabor brutal y el aliño perfecto. La mayor de las sorpresas fueron las gambas rojas de Palamós que las cocinan en el horno kamado, están cocinadas un punto menos porque el sabor de la gamba…insuperable! Y terminamos con la txuleta, la carne exquisita, el punto al que estaba cocinada era impecable.

De postre tomamos una cuajada de maíz con sal de kikos y queso mascarpone, que tenia el punto justo de dulzor para terminar.

La atención de Iñigo y Joseba (y del equipo al completo!) hicieron que todo fuese muy agradable porque fue de 20 su profesionalidad y amabilidad.

Si a todo esto sumamos que lo acompañamos con un vino Pago Santa Cruz, fue una comida perfecta.
