We went there few times with my husband. Both times in the morning, just for coffee and croisants. Tried their ice cream, which is ok, but we prefer the one in other place. Everything was usually fine. Nothing special, the drinks and food were good, the service ok. But the last time we came in with our kids. Had coffee, ice cream and some snack. We were given the bill at the end with 3 extra drinks. I was a bit upset, but it's fine all we are the human and can make mistakes. I went to the till to explain what happened, the lady just took the receipt, said, oh, you didn't have it? Ok. She told me the new price which still was wrong and didn't give me the receipt. But I already new what I had to pay. So I had to ask her to show me the receipt and explained her again the situation and had to tell her what I need to pay. She has accepted what I said and paid, but she has never apologised for...

We always used to come here when the previous owner was in charge and were always very satisfied. After a long time, we returned to Playa San Juan and thought we’d get an ice cream again.

I asked for a cup of ice cream (costing 12 euros) and wanted it filled with hazelnut ice cream. Halfway through scooping, the server stopped and told me I had to choose a second flavor because otherwise, there wouldn’t be enough ice cream left for other customers. Unfortunately, there were hardly any other options I liked. But he give me no other option.

Then, he asked if I wanted a bag (for 10 cents), and I said that was okay. When I paid, I received 20 cents less in change. I pointed this out to him, and his response was, "I don’t have any more change and walked away.

What an unfriendly service—once and never again! It might also help if he learned...

I was worried about the change in ownership as we all love Heladería Opera. I needn’t have been as the new owners, Catherine and Fabrizio are very friendly and welcoming and they have maintained the quality of the Italian ice cream and the coffee. They also offer more choices of food and their homemade lasagne and tiramisu is wonderful! I live in San Juan and my passion is cycling in Tenerife, so what better way to finish a ride than ice cream...
