We have been in an apartment in Playa San Juan, on holiday, for just under a week. The apartment is a good base as we hired a car and can get to various parts of the coast. Plays San Juan is quite nice on the sea front and they have obviously got some funding to tidy up the promenade. The beach is typical of the area being of black sand (not imported) and can be quite pebbly and absorbs the sun so it can hurt your feet. Away from the sea front the place is quite shabby and the depression in Spain has still halted a lot of building work. The town also has the beach, some nice restaurants in there with the fresh seafood as the port is just across the road. We have our favourite places in Playa San Juan. There is the open market every wednesday, where you can buy fruits, vegetables and flowers grown locally in Tenerife by local private farmers. Everything has the reasonable price. Note there are pebbles on the beach in one long stretch about two meters back from the water's edge and only a meter to two in places deep the rest of the beach in soft black sand.
