Unfortunately, one of the worst dining experiences we’ve had on Lanzarote. We visited La Azotea in Arrieta with excitement and the hope of enjoying some good local food, but left disappointed, hungry, and feeling completely ripped off.
We paid over €60 for a “mixed paella for three,” and yet two adults couldn’t even get full. The dish consisted mostly of rice with barely any actual ingredients. A few tiny pieces of fish (literally countable), barely visible seafood you could mistake for rice grains, a few miniature bits of chicken, and paprika so sparse and finely chopped that any chef would probably call it a “dusting” rather than an ingredient. Two pieces of lemon for three portions, and not even a trace of the typical chorizo. This wasn’t a mixed paella – it was more like rice with missing elements.
My partner is a highly skilled chef and truly appreciates good cuisine – and even he was speechless. This wasn’t just a poorly made dish; it felt like an insult to paella.
When we kindly asked for an explanation regarding the unusually high bill, we were met with eye-rolls and sarcasm from the waitress. Money isn’t the issue – we travel a lot and enjoy dining out – but this kind of experience is unacceptable.
And then there’s the service. Our child chose a dessert from the display, but something completely different arrived at the table – no explanation. The decoration? A random blob of whipped cream and a chocolate wafer stick. No care, no charm. We waited an unreasonably long time for drinks, despite being one of the only tables in the restaurant – and there were three servers. No goodbye, no thank you, just silence.
Disappointed, frustrated, and still hungry. A real shame, because the location itself has so...
Read moreMy wife and I, having read numerous positive reviews, decided to visit this restaurant on the evening of December 24, 2024. We even made a special trip to dine here.
When we arrived, there was a couple in front of us. They were immediately seated at a table. However, when it was our turn, we were told that no more guests were being accepted for the evening. This was confusing and disappointing because we had just seen the previous couple being seated.
We pointed out an available table nearby (photo attached) and asked another waitress if we could be seated there. She said she would check with management and let us know. We waited and waited, but she never returned with an answer.
I understand that the restaurant may have been busy and the staff overwhelmed, but the way this situation was handled felt unprofessional and dismissive. It was a very disappointing experience, especially after all the great things we had heard about this place.
I hope management takes this feedback seriously and improves its service...
