Big Man Restaurant - Camping Playa Paraíso — Restaurant in la Vila Joiosa / Villajoyosa

The food looked lovely here amd although the menu is higher end price wise compared to other bars and restaurants in the area the food and portions did look good.

However we were unable to try the food. As soon as we walked in we were not made to feel feel welcome at all by the woman. She was very straight faced. No smiles. No pleasantries. She made it seem too much trouble to put a fifth chair at a table. The only thing we can think of is we had children with us...maybe she doesn't like children? She tried to take a drunk order but we weren't quite ready and the face she pulled when I asked for 2 more.minutes was crazy...anyone would think I'd been rude her the way she stormed off. Very strange. So we felt uncomfortable immediately. But her partner, the Spanish guys was really friendly and great with the kids so we thought we would stay. We did not wish to spend 9.50 per child on a meal and then the only menu she offered us was 12.50 per person. We were looking for something to share as the kids had already eaten just an hour before. So we decided we would order 2 menus of the day fpr the children to share and then buy some extra patatas, buy extra bread and we would have also ordered drinks for the 5 of us. When we told her we were sharing food she again pulled a face and I asked her if this was OK and she made another face (honestly this woman had a face like a slapped arse the whole time we were there) and she said no its not OK to share. So we got up and left. We are local we've been here several years, been to many places all over the la vila and this was honestly the worst most obnoxious self entitled woman we've ever been served by. Maybe she didn't like the look of us, I don't know. But we were friendly, polite and our kids are well behaved. We will obviously never go back and recommend you spend your money elsewhere. It was a weird atmosphere and there are far better places elsewhere in la vila to chose from. we'd heard good things about bar olivos just up the road. Staff were really lovely. We stopped by for a drink in the day and decided to book for dinner in the evening for my Dads birthday. The staff were very attentive and had a few laughs with us. We felt very welcome. We pre ordered a mixed paella as they had a big dinner party booked for the evening. The paella was very tasty, huge and had plenty of meat and fish in it. Highly recommend. We found this lovely mom-and-pop place during our stay in Villajoyosa, and it was a great surprise. The vibe was warm and welcoming, and the staff were very friendly and helpful.
