One of my favourite restaurants for fresh fish in Marbella, Altamirano, has been in business for forty years. The fish is sourced from the fishing port of La Bajadilla. Situated in Plaza Altamirano, one of the most charming plazas in Marbella's old town, it can get quite busy in the summer, especially on the terrace. It's wise to make a reservation or arrive early. The opening time for dinner is seven in the evening.
The menu features traditional Malaga dishes, such as fried fish or "pescaíto." While the prices may be slightly higher (between 20 to 30 Euros) than those at similar establishments, they are reasonable given the high quality of the food. The gambas al pilpil were delicious, and the swordfish was perfectly cooked, served with an olive oil and garlic sauce. Read moreRip-off Alert! We went in for a casual tapas meal and ended up paying a shocking €111. We ordered calamari, sardines, and mussels. The waiter convinced us to switch the mussels for clams, which we later found out were charged by the piece! They gave us a random amount of clams, way too many, already €17! Sardines were "sold out," so they substituted them with the "fish of the day," which added even more to the bill without clear communication. On top of that, the fish was mushy, the vegetables were fluo green and everything was greasy. What started as a simple meal turned into an overpriced experience. The waiters weren't particularly friendly, but when they were, it seemed like a tactic to push more expensive dishes. The man who seated us was even very rude and impolite. If you're looking for a relaxing tapas night, beware – this place will nickel and...
Read moreIf you check my reviews you can tell I don’t give 5 stars or a good review unless I mean it. Over the years living in one of the main capitals of food of the world I am lucky to have developed a taste for fresh food quality food and when you take that and combine it with tradition well, that’s where perfection is born. This restaurant has by far the best fish in Costa del Sol with the best prices and the best service. Visit and try it you will not regret it, I guarantee you. But don’t eat deep fried fish, that’s not where the taste is, there is no aroma in fish covered with flower and socked in oil, try the grilled fish, squid, and fresh catches of the day. Anything you chose as long as it’s grilled in it’s own flavours and all natural you will love it. PS: only amateurs go for deep friend fish....
