By far the rudest experience I’ve had on the Camino Portugués. Avoid! We stopped by Paso a Nivel because a local marathon meant my mum’s luggage transport couldn’t reach our hotel. Staff insisted we buy something before we could take our bags, even though we hadn’t ordered delivery here. When I tried to order a couple of beers and a slice of tortilla at the bar, I was told to wait for table service. After 15 minutes a server finally arrived, pushed me aside claiming I was ‘in her way,’ and service stayed painfully slow. They brought us a whole tortilla we didn’t order, which I sent back in exchange for the slice that we had ordered. We bumped into a fellow pilgrim who was staying at the hotel but had to go wait for an hour after checking at the bar to be shown her room and to ‘calm herself’ and ostensibly have a drink at the bar while the barman could show her to her room. Clearly understaffed, but there’s no excuse for the rudeness. Not what you want after another long day walking. Would...
Read moreThis is by FAR the worst experience in Europe. I never ever write reviews but I’m so angry from this experience that I will. First off this town is DEAD, if you are doing the Camino and have the opportunity to pick your days, don’t do Sunday. The food is nothing like the pictures or description. We are fluent in Spanish therefore there isn’t a barrier to make an excuse for the service. The guy is so rude and doesn’t know how to do anything. He told our English speaker that her phone had a translate the menu instead of having an English version for her. We had to get up to ask for salt and order another drink because he never came by. The worst part was paying, he told us his phone didn’t work so we needed to go up to the cashier. They charged us 12 extra euros on items we didn’t even have. They wouldn’t let us have a receipt and then the waiter came and told us to MOVE out of the way. They refused to give the receipt and then told us we should’ve asked sooner when we did. When we finally got the receipt after five minutes of arguing. We found out that they added water and a salad to our bill that didn’t exist. When they found out they called us “ mad women “ simply for asking for receipt and their mistake. This is just the highlighted parts. There’s more interactions and exchanges I’m baffled by. Go the next town over.
Read moreWow! First and most importantly for someone walking the Camino de Santiago and staying at an albergue that closes its doors early, they serve their full menu before 8 pm. Secondly, this is by far the best meal I have had since I started my journey. An incredibly generous portion of beef, cooked to perfection, and served on a hotplate with fries and roasted green and red peppers. The wine was also good and came with a generous side of peanuts while I was waiting for the meal. All of this for just a few € more than a pilgrim's meal in "Camino recommended" restaurants! As if this was not enough, the staff was kind, helpful, friendly, and smiling. It's only steps away from the municipal albergue. A place like this deserves to survive. Please support them if in Porriño. They're also open early. I'll certainly go back...
