Pirates restaurant — Restaurant in Pilar de la Horadada

We have been visiting this beach for many years also due to that bar and also the bigger restaurant opposite in the dunes, so we had been very much in favour of it. Staff, drinks and food seemed good along with the great view. I don't know what happened to it and why it lost it's soul, but during 3 visits this month at this beach bar we experienced that staff motivation leaves much for desire!! No smile, no explanation or food recommendation to foreign guests, but slowed down replies, annoyed finger tipping and eye-rolling of the waitress. They did not say a word to much. Not a friendly atmosphere. In times of Covid, there was no soap available or refilled at the rest rooms, not even to think about hand sanitizers and we have been there more than once.

About the food: For a direct on-the-beach location, some tapas were good and a fairly big choice on the menue, but grilled chicken breast, crispy chicken burger and garden salat (side order) were served without any butter/sauce/salsa or vinaigrette. Result: Droughty, stale and dry taste...we pimped the burger ourself with some ketchup. Only the drinks were outstandingly good as they used to be. Needless to say, we didn't give any tip, which we normally do for good or kind service and for sure, we won't visit that place...

We used to come here very often, food is not special and not bad, but today's visit was our last. They did not want to open the sun blinds a bit (not possible until 2 pm acc. to them?!) so our 3 year old kid would have to sit at a table in the full mid-day sun! We therefore moved one seat to a more shady side area in the sand, were people were placed at a table in the sand without any issues the day before, and let our kid eat and play there. A men showed up, probably the manager, claiming with a grumpy voice that this is not acceptable due to authorities, not offering any solution to us. We understood that too, despite the unkindness.

Interesting what happened shortly after we left the beach bar, when we stayed at the beach and could watch this scenerary closely: 2 women in a beachsuits passed by, the man heavily waved at them (I don't know why my boyfriend ever thought he is waving so friendly to him behind, since obviously he wasn't wearing a bikini nor was a guest to be treated kindly). Both girls were placed in the full sun too and it didn't seem to be a problem at all to open the sun awning before 2pm for them.

I’ve been coming to this restaurant for two years now. Today after a sunny day at the beach we decided to stop by for a coffee and drink. As usual at this restaurant all tables have a reservation sign on them, no problem on other days. Today Sunday immediately after sitting at an empty table I was approached by a waiter who said I had to go inside if I didn’t have a reservation. Ten minutes later two ladies were setted at the same table. I approached them and asked if they had a reservation, which they answered NO! Of course I was upset by this and approached the waiter who had 10 minutes before had forced me off of the table. His reply was in his own language which I didn’t understand and he then walked off. Luckily my wife had secured a table that had just been vacated and we were served, by the same waiter. Needless to say the waiter’s conduct was not conducive for this restaurant. Therefore, I would like to make sure this experience gets noted for...
