Oct 13, 2020 Pura Brasa. Restaurant run by the makers of the famous Josper ovens. Josper ovens originated from this village Pineda de Mar, 50 kms from Barcelona. The name Josper comes from Jose and Pere, the brothers who founded the company. Perhaps the best oven, with the grilling done over wooden charcoal fire. Every dish, other than desserts I suppose, is cooked in their trademark oven. Trust me when I say that the flavour is exceptional. The brinjal was grilled simply and tasted smoking fabulous, a bit like the Indian bartha (without the spices, of course). Even the mussels are cooked in their grill. And bread too! The burger is not made of a dull, compacted patty but of steak tartare made from Galician and Wagyu beef. So every bite melts in your mouth unlike a regular, dense patty. For a Tuesday lunch time, during Covid times, the place was not empty at all. All safety protocols were followed, though. I enjoyed the meal very much.
Dec 01, 2020 After the restaurants' shutdown was lifted, the one place I was eager to visit was Pura Brasa, yet again. Didn't mind the hour's drive from Barcelona to the restaurant at Pineda de Mar. Featured in the photos are Sirloin steak and 48 days, dry aged Simmental Rib eye sreak. Simmental is a breed of cows, originally from the Berne region of Switzerland, known for their lean and marbled meat. Dry aging of the meat is done in climate controlled chambers. The process breaks down its protein and enzymes making the flavours of the meat more concentrated, soft, supple, and nutty. Having it grilled first on the wood coals of Josper oven, and then the slices seared at the table on a Josper iron plate, only makes the meal, more exquisite. Pura Brasa does not...
Read moreWow! We have visited Santa Susanna /Pineda for a number of years and this is by far the best restaurant we have frequented! (3rd visit in two weeks) From the interesting and clever decor through to most importantly the food and service there has clearly been a lot of thought and planning. Different areas offering quiet intimate dining or larger fun vibrant spots for a more lively experience. Attention to detail has not been skimped on. It's spotlessly clean throughout too. We come from Surbiton, London and this restaurant would not be out of place in Wimbledon or the suburbs. Food is fresh, varied and beautifully presented. They even offer gluten free alternatives and hopefully those choices will expand further in time. Staff are very friendly and attentive and with my shameful spanish vocabulary remained patient and unfazed despite it being a busy Saturday night and the restaurant being full. If in this area do include a visit to Pura Brasa in Pineda. We will...
Read moreVery nice and tasty food, a bit pricey but you get what you pay for, some of the items on the menu like “meat by the weight” are a bit unclear, for example the wagyu steak has an attractive price until you realise you are forced to order a minimum of 500 grams and the price is per 100 grams then the price gets a lot more unattractive. We ended up ordering something else. The mussles tapas and wagyu burgers were very tasty and so was the ribbed steak. You get your own small grill with it and you can sear it to your own preference. To top it of the creme catalana was pretty nice aswell and the coffee was good too. The service was nice and attentive and our drinks and food got made quickly. The general mood of the establishment is classical with a modern twist, it’s lowkey enough that you don’t end up getting distracted by it, but nice enough to look good. Keep in mind: a reservation...
