Ilarra embodies the modern essence of Basque Spanish cuisine, pushing traditional boundaries while honoring its culinary roots. Each dish presented is a creative fusion of iconic flavors and innovative techniques, resulting in a captivating gustatory symphony that awakens the senses.

They brilliantly succeeds in marrying Basque culinary heritage with a contemporary twist, creating a truly unique gastronomic experience. The dishes, crafted with exceptional expertise, transform local ingredients into modern masterpieces that reflect both the history and future vision of Basque cuisine.

The respect for regional products and commitment to innovation are evident in every plate. Each bite unveils a palette of flavors and textures harmoniously balanced, showcasing the chef's boldness and creativity. Modern cooking techniques, combined with the highest quality ingredients, elevate each dish to unparalleled refinement.

The service is very friendly yet attentive and highly knowledgeable. They will wisely guide you on the choice of dishes but also wines (they have an amazing list of great wine at an affordable price).

The Ilarra restaurant is much more than a mere dining venue; it's a celebration of culinary creativity, innovation, and respect for traditions. Each visit offers a modern and unforgettable gastronomic experience that reveals the true essence of Basque Spanish cuisine in a new light, making Lilarra a true culinary gem to...

Don't be put off by the lack of reviews. Or by the fact it's in the middle of nowhere. The trip is worth it. This place is perfect. No exaggeration necessary. Service, food quality and yes even the ambiance. Arrived at 1pm before they were even open. But we were welcomed to sit in the garden and were even asked if we wanted to order drinks already. The day was sweltering and humid and this was a real kindness. The on the house appetizer was a sign of great things to come. Would go back even for just that. But every appetizers we had, the tomato salad and the risotto, the vegetables were so fresh and flavorful. The snow crab and the scallops are not to be missed. And the txuleta was mindblowing. Easily the best steak in our 3 week trip around Spain, having tried some well known steak restaurants in Madrid, Barcelona and Seville and maybe even the most tasty steak I have ever had (beats champion grade Kobe from Japan). Cut with a knife, it won't be super tender, but it is definitely NOT chewy in your mouth. Grilled on a giant firewood grill, and you can taste it in the meat. But that's not all. The lemon tart, arroz con leche and the cheesecake each delectable in their own ways made in house. Go hungry. Pay attention to the recommendations. Share with others so you can taste as much as possible. Will...

Arrived in San Sebastian on a Saturday night & expecting to walk into town to sample the excellent choice of restaurants. Rain meant we could not & needed to find somewhere off the beaten track, not too busy & can accept our 2 babies also. With the amount of high quality places in town - not easy to find somewhere family friendly. After a phone call to check they could accommodate we found our way there, which not easy even with a gps... But worth it - oh yes! A lady who spoke great English helped us through the menu & everything sounded fantastic. This is just the sort of place I love to find - highly rated but still a find. High class & quality food but at a bargain. The wine I asked for recommendation (Rueda) came in at 11.00 euros & was perfect,. The fish - OMG - Merluza was excellent, especially the neck (local recommendation). This is our first of 10 nights in Donostia - can it...

Really lucky we managed to get a table indoors during the Sunday lunch service without reservations. When we got served the traditional Gilda (the iconic pintxo of guindilla peppers, anchovies and olives), reimagined as part of a pani puri, we knew we were in for a treat. Quality ingredients and impressive grill/fire cooking. We enjoyed the seasonal grilled peppers (20% chance of very spicy!), a very moreish onion risotto/rice dish, a beautiful and delicate turbot, and the iconic txuelta done in such a way that really allowed us to enjoy the beef. Wish we had space to try more dishes! Our host Juliana was so personable and brilliant, ensuring our needs were taken care of even during a busy afternoon. Highly recommended for a contemporary, beautiful and tasty escape just a short, accessible distance from the city.

My wife and I had a couple hour lunch at this restaurant and loved it. The main was Rodaballo Salvaje (wild turbot), Piquillos asados (grilled peppers) & a green salad. It was all phenomenal. This Basque restaurant does things with an open grill that seem impossible. Our only criticism is that we thought the amuse-bouche was a little on the fishy side and not to our taste. The Revuelto de Hongos (egg & mushroom) appetizer was delicious but maybe just a little too salty. The Basque Sidra seems to go with everything. We finished with an out of this world Tarta de queso (translates to cheesecake but not really) with an ice cream that was almost vanilla but unlike anything I've ever had. The outdoor setting was perfect. The entire experience was delicious and relaxing.
