Driving down from Valencia to Murcia, we took an unplanned detour to drive alongside the coast and landed up in Santa Pola. It was late afternoon and we were hungry. But it was already siesta time and most of the restaurants were closed. Looking around we found a restaurant still open and lo and behold, it turned out to be an Indian Restaurant.
We never expected an Indian restaurant at such a remote place where you would hardly see any Indians, if any. Suspicious we were of what they would serve us in a place that primarily caters to Europeans, but we were in for a surprise.
To our disbelief, the food turned out to be much beyond our expectations. I can now say that, without any doubt, this is the best Indian food I had during my entire 3 months long travels across Europe.
On enquiry, I was told that they hardly ever have any Indian customers and that their primary clientele consisted of local Europeans. The fact that the food we ate was not altered to suit the taste/palate of its primary clientele also speaks volumes about the people who come to this place to taste authentic Indian food.
Probably, the fact that its a family run enterprise is the prime reason that it has been able to maintain the authenticity of the Indian food. I only hope that they would continue to maintain the same.
If you are passing by on the South Eastern coast of Spain, I would highly recommend that you take a break in Santa Palo and have a taste of Indian food at...
Read moreAwesome experience! From the outside it seems like a nice enough place but not very crowded with costumers, but that's only because they pay special attention to the tranquility and on point ambient for the costumers. Everything from the music, loud enough to create a good scene but not too loud as to disrupt any conversations, to the privacy procured through the panels and space between tables, made this my favourite stop on town. As for the food I have to say that I usually love this cuisine, but the dishes made us positively enamored! The masala, the rices, all the sauces they provided... By the time it came to dessert I wasn't the least hungry anymore but I just had to go over the top and try the homemade ice-cream and I assure you, I was not disappointed! 11/10, I would recommend the place to anyone, a true crime not to eat there...
Read moreThis Indian advertises itself as a Hindu restaurant so I was very surprised to find beef dishes on the menu.
I ordered a beef madras. As usual (as is always the case in Spain or Portugal) I was asked if I would like my Beef Madras mild, medium or spicy. At first I refused to answer because a Madras is a hot curry. I eventually said spicy to get rid of her. It was served mild.
The butter naan looked like a chamois leather. Very thin and soft. It tasted like a scone. Chicken tikka shashlik featured six cubes of bought in chicken and the tarka daal came from a tin. You'd think I'd have learned my lesson by now but no I just keep on going to Indians in Spain and Portugal and I always end up disappointed. This was the final straw! I’ll never visit another...
