Restaurante Playa — Restaurant in Santa Pola

Restaurant Playa has been totally refitted for summer 2020. It could best be described as “industrial” but is none the worse for that. It’s clean, comfortable, friendly and has mellow background music that doesn’t intrude on quiet conversation. This was our second visit following the refit; the first was an outside table for tapas and a beer, but this was a sit-in meal. I started with cheese and jam, which is the best I’ve had anywhere in Spain. I followed up with a pizza. The base was more pastry-like than a traditional Italian bread pizza, but that was more than compensated for by the toppings, which were generous and tasty. My partner had chipirones; now we had these on the previous visit and they weren’t great - a bit wet in the middle is the best way to describe them - and I advised against them, but they got a second go and were still less than ideal. The tuna and tomato salad, on the other hand was excellent and very tasty. Not a salad in the traditional sense, but lots of tomato flavours and nicely cooked fish. Don’t go here. Neither my partner nor I have ever sent a meal back, but the chicken was so badly cooked that we had to. We asked if we could have it removed from the bill as we couldn’t eat it. They agreed. We then waited for someone to come with the bill but no one did for around an hour. We decided to go in and pay. Not only did they want to charge for the chicken now, they added on two waters we never received and and extra glass of wine which we never had. We asked them to remove these and the chicken like agreed. Again we waited around 20 minutes and finally, without saying anything they gave us the bill with the chicken still on. Overpriced and the food that was edible was mediocre at best. Plenty of other great places to eat so just...

Fuimos mi mama e yo a comer allí. Yo desgraciadamente no como pez, así que pedí por una entrecot. Estuvimos puestos en las mesas frente a la playa. Soy Francesa, no entiendo perfectamente el español pero llevo 3 años viviendo aquí y nunca he tenido problemas. La camarera que nos atiende muy poca agradable, para no decir desagradable, pedimos dos ensaladas, y una entrecot. Me pregunta si la quiero picada digo que si. Vuelve y me dice que no tienen entrecot. Vale entonces el solomillo ( que son las dos cosas sin pez de todos los platos). Me dice que no tienen ninguna carne. 10 min después a la mesa de al lado le dice que no tienen carne ( el chico como yo no come pez), se va y vuelve diciendole que si que al final tienen entrecot. Me quede flipando. Cuando pude llamé a otra camarera para decirle que a mi ma han dicho que no hay carne y veo que le sirven carne al lado ? Me dice que solo había esa pieza de carne y que yo la pedí picada. A ver señores dije claramente pido carne porque no como pez, me dices claramente no carne no tenemos, a la vez de proponerme otra opción me dejas sin comer nada, una ensalada pequeña sin nada más. Nos fuimos sin pedir postres, malísimo. Cuando quise acláralas cosas con la camarera en cuestión y otra, me dijeron que YO no había entendido aunque me dijo textualmente carne no tenemos. Dije bueno no pasa nada fue un malentendido, y dijo rápidamente una disculpa sin más.
