What a Gem of a restaurant, indeed. It's Michelin grade and the food was out of this world. There is no seating outside, and it being a popular place with limited indoor capacity,, make sure you make a reservation in advance. The restaurant is managed by Pilar and her husband, so a family run business. Pilar helps you choose the food (she speaks good English) and her husband is the main chef. I had the Tuna Tartare and it was so delicious. Pilar told me that her recommendation is to mix it all together with the source and to have it on top of the toast. The source had nutty flavour and combined with the sesame, mustard and god knows what other ingredients in the dish, you will be treated to an ensemble of flavours. I was quite pleased to see the red curry being offered, as it was more common in east Asia, and the flavour did not disappoint. Pilar said her husband refined the recipe of a Singaporean chef to better suit the Spanish palate. Well done to him, Five stars without any hesitation for the quality of the food and excellent friendly personalised service. I...
Read moreMe and my wife are on a Eurotrip by car and are visiting many cities where we book restaurants from the Michelin Guide. Our focus is on Bib Gourmand rated selections but not always. Till we arrived to Agua Salada we have visited 1 in Bordeaux and 4 in Bilbao from which 3 were Bibs. We selected this place just for lunch on our way from Bilbao to Picos de Europa. Let me tell you folks that this restaurant’s food and service has been the best on the trip so far and not by an inch but by a mile. The food is just so right, all the flavours are well balanced and the service is so friendly and warm. To be fair one of the best experiences we have had with my wife finding places to eat from the guide and we have visited 1⭐️ and 2⭐️ places and to be fair I would even say it is underrated by the guide. Dear Agua Salada keep up the good job you are doing and Carlos’s cooking is just amazing. I hope we can come...
Read moreAgua Salada feels like eating with family, the food is elevated but still reminiscent of home cooking, the decor like a favourite great aunt's house, and the service familiar enough to put a smile on your face but not so familiar as to be offensive. A few dishes, in my view, could have been improved upon, the berenjena, for example lacked texture but the mojo was sublime, and the Torijas (well I'm a fundamentalist where Torijas are concerned and I think day old bread is always called for, brioche if you must, but a sobao (essentially a Madelaine) does not have the right texture. All in all a very pleasant experience, €82 for three courses, and the service, for me, pushed it into five...
