Freiduría La Almena — Restaurant in Tarifa

The sign outside of the shop advertised a traditional looking fish and chips and this immediately got me interested as I was in need of some quick food. However I was sceptical about this place from the moment I walked in. The decor was ghastly and in desperate need of a new design. The lobby was cramped with stray tables and chairs and there was not much room to move. The kitchen was enclosed behind an ugly wall which meant you could not see how your food was being prepared, this made me slightly uneasy as I couldn’t see how fresh the fish was or if it was frozen. I ordered a fish and chips and a coke and this cost €9 which was a little bit pricey if you ask me. The staff were inattentive and inhospitable which damped my mood after I’d had a nice morning. When my fish and chips arrived I was shocked by how small the portion was. This was not a traditional fish and chips but in fact 4 pieces of undercooked mush that was clearly not fresh produce. The chips were soggy and under-seasoned and there was not enough of them. Presentation was poor and the refrigerator must have been broken that day because my coke was not cold.

On the whole I would not recommend this fish...

A strange restaurant, very strange. 15 minutes after we sat down, finally, after several calls, a dark-skinned waitress with a dancing steps, came up to us, took the order for drinks, after another 10-15min she came again after we called her few times and she took an order from one of us and walked away, there were three of us and we were all hungry, then we called the waitress several times but without success, she was moving like a dancer from table to table, singing something. I was so pissed, that I have approached another waiter and he immediately came over and took our next orders. The food was very average, even poor compared to other restaurants during our trip around Andalusia. I do not recommend this place, although most of the restaurants in Tarifa were closed in January, it is worth looking for another one. And the prices...

was immediately dissapointed with service, waited at the door for 10 minutes before seated. understandable as was busy but struggled to get attention of waiting staff, first round of mains came after nearly a 45 minute wait, where underwhelming, waited nearly a whole hour before the waiter comes up with a surprised look realising he FORGOT 2 dishes, the mixed fried fish came clearly rushed, molten on the outside and raw on the inside, the 2nd dish came after another 20 minute wait at which point we decided to leave without eating, the waiter then argued with my girlfriend about taking the dish we waited 2 hours for off the bill, which he eventually agreed too. another customer had to send their dish back after the wait staff neglected their anaphylactic allergy and included soya, one of the named allergens, not impressed...
