Bar Cortijo — Restaurant in Tarragona

We had the most wonderful time at Bar Cortijo. We went for lunch and left about 4hours later - it was too good to leave. The space itself is small, in a good way! It's split over two levels. It's nicely shaded so doesn't get hot and often the perfect breeze floats through. We had so much food, they kept bringing out plate after plate of amazing tapas for us to enjoy. We were greeted with Negroni's and then spent the rest of the time enjoying lots of natural wines. It was a great space to spend time in and the hosts/owners really took care in their work and ensuring we had a great time and sharing their passion for great food and delicious wines. I’ve been dreaming of visiting this place for years. It is a huge institution for natural wine and amazing beautiful and simple food and finally I managed to visit with a group of friends and they really went beyond to make us feel and have the most amazing time. Santi the owner is very beloved in the natural wine scene and he is a very sweet and fun man with so many cool stories about winemakers and also knows his food! He prepared a beautiful paella for us. Da Marinaio quale sono,di Bar e Locande per tutto il Mar Mediterraneo e oltre Oceano ne ho girati tanti ma nessun posto e’ cosi’ autentico ed incredibile come il Bar Cortijo! Ho avuto la fortuna di frequentarlo per diversi mesi e potrei scrivere un libro di aneddoti. Ricordo ancora il primo piatto che assaggiai:il gomito del maiale…..una roba da matti!E poi la Espineta,un’antica ricetta povera che abbina la spina dorsale del tonno ai caracoles.Prodotti sempre freschi,direttamente dal mare o dai boschi,lavorati con originalita’ e maestria dal grande Santi.Con Luis e’ stato amore a prima vista,da quando mi fece bere il vino con il porron e assaggiare il suo fantastico liquore alle erbe(mi ha pure svelato la ricetta). La cosa piu’ bella e’ l’atmosfera che si respira,gli amici e clienti abituali che si incontrano ogni volta,le storie,le risate,giovani da ogni parte del mondo che vengono a Tarragona per conoscere il Cortijo,perche’ ne hanno sentito parlare a New York o San Francisco. Tutto questo e molto altro rendono il Cortijo un posto UNICO……facciamo pure Patrimonio dell’Umanita’!jajajajajajajaja. Un ricordo particolare alla cara Angeles che spesso ci ha sopportati fino a chiusura e oltre! Oddio,ho scritto un poema…….e non ho parlato dei vini naturali,de las anchoas barricatas di Santi,del coniglio(cacciato da Jose’)con caracoles,dei dolci di Ani,dei pranzi sacri del venerdi’ con Enric,Magi y Julio,del Pere,Toni,Jordi,etc etc etc. Fate una cosa:andate……e non ve...
