EDIT: After a horrible and closed-minded response from the owners, I am changing my review to 1*. They might want to watch some episodes of Kitchen Nightmares as I think they would be a great candidate.
We have tasted "true neopolitan pizza" in Italy and I can tell you right now that this is not even close. And a dough that is cooked will spring back once it has been held. In the photo, there is no pressure on my hand, I am simply holding a piece of undercooked dough. I do not care about all of the technicalities behind your 4 day aged sourdough and hydration percentage. The dough was raw in the center and that is nothing but a fact.
I think the owner's attitude in their response is a big enough sign that things need to change. You may be a family business, but you are still a business. I never questioned their hard work either, I gave honest feedback and they decided to explode in anger and with a lot of unnecessary commentary and insults.
ORIGINAL REVIEW: I've been a bit hesitant about leaving a bad review considering the usual responses from the restaurant on other not-so-good reviews.
Seeing as the restaurant had 4.8 stars and was in walking distance to our home, we decided to give it a try, we love italian food. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere and tables in the back garden was very nice.
On to the food, the overall presentation was good. I've never had flowers on a pizza before, but alongside the basil it was a nice touch. The taste of the pizza was very nice, but that is as far as it goes. The bottom of the pizza was incredibly thin and there was so much tomato sauce on the pizza that the bottom crust was soggy and just hanging there. The crust on the outside of the pizza was very thick which resulted in the inside of the crust being doughy and undercooked even though it was slightly burned on the outside.
The pizza was served on a wooden board, which at first looked rustic and nice, but it was terrible to eat from. This resulted in my knife slipping, and due to the big amount of tomato sauce, the sauce flew across the table, on my dress (had to immediately have it rinsed when coming home), and even on the floor. I am by no means a clumsy eater, so this was a very new experience to me. I'd much rather prefer a regular plate.
Another guest at our table had the same experience with the pizza being soggy at the bottom and burnt on the edges. They did not finish it.
During our stay, we witnessed a waiter that we assumed was very new, but I think it is worth a mention. They were incredibly clumsy with bottles, glasses, and serving in general. Bottles and cutlery fell on the tables and the ground causing disturbances. At the start, when we got our glasses, we also noticed that the inside of the glass was greasy, and we later witnessed why. The waiter lifted the glasses from the top with the thumb inside the glass and the other fingers on the outside of the rim. This is not sanitary at all. I have previously been a waitress for 4 years and handling glasses like this would get you reprimanded immediately.
At the end of our stay, we decided to skip desserts as we were no longer hungry. The waiter cleared our table, almost spilling the food in the process. We asked for the check (and specified we would be paying with card). I think he forgot about us, because after 15 minutes we still had not been able to pay even though the waiter had been serving drinks and cleaning other tables in the meantime. We waved down a different waiter and finally got the check. One of our guests had ordered another glass of wine, but we noticed later that this glass of wine was put into the system as a soda instead. It would be completely fine if it wasn't for the soda being more expensive than a glass of wine.
We had high hopes for this restaurant and wish we had a better experience. Maybe it will be improved at a later time, but for now we will...
Ciao 😉 BONUS: A MARZO DE 2024 PERO LEIDO EN MAYO DE 2024 EL MARIDO ME HA HABLADO X FACEBOOK. ADJUNTO FOTO.
Read moreFirst of all this is THE best pizza/food In Torrevieja. The pizza is as authentic as you can get along with the other food options which are sooooo tasty. Highly recommend the boneless chicken legs. However as a pizza fanatic I ordered my own selection of ingredients and the staff were only too happy to oblige. Now I make my own pizzas in the UK and have studied the art of dough for many years. I knew the dough was BIGA and the owner was happy to confirm this. You might wait a little longer for your food to arrive especially if it’s a busy period but when it does arrive you can clearly see not only the quality of ingredients but the love that has gone into making each dish you order is clear for all to see. The food was unbelievably tasty and I have attached pictures. The waiter was friendly and worked hard to make sure we had whatever we needed. Coffee was also amazing!!!!! I can only highly recommend this place and we will definitely be coming...
