Chiringuito Colonia — Restaurant in Vélez-Málaga

Our first time at the "new" Colonia by Safari and let's start with service is a disaster!!

Pleasant enough staff but clearly in need of help on how to take orders for drinks/food a d get them to the table. The phone order system seems to be part of the problem.

Next to deliver the orders for 4 guests:

DRINKS A single bottle of wine for two people was ordered at the very start along with two beers for the other two guests. The two beers made it but the wine required asking three more times and going to the bar ourselves to get it still took more than 25 minutes. When at the bar, the bar tender argued in front of us with the waiter about why the bottle wasn't on the bar for him to deliver. It still took another+5 minutes to arrive and then came with 4 glasses. Meanwhile we needed two more beers to make a toast with our friends.

FOOD: Trying to order 3 Wok dishes (2 the same except one was to be picante) and 1 rosada (picante) could not be done in the order system ?? Next, when they brought the food out from the kitchen to our table they didn't know what it was. How is this possible we wonder? When asked what dish it was the water said he doesn't know. We'll, nor did we so back he goes to the kitchen.

When they return the next time they have 2 Woks (but which is the picante one we ask?) turns out neither and the rosada (also not picante). We ask for the third Wok and have to ask again 2 more times more than 10 minutes before it arrives.

Food was fine although not quite as ordered but tasty enough.

Ambiance is nice enough but unless the staff receive training on service, food and become a team that works together rather than against each other we'll stick with Jazzba, Berebere and Boraz when we want a large chiringuito.

Being in Torre since 2015 there are too many great restaurants that get it right to have this experience. We imagine that is why Masai Mara closed...

Nuestra primera vez en el "nuevo" Colonia by Safari y, para empezar, el servicio es un desastre.

Personal bastante agradable, pero claramente necesita ayuda para tomar pedidos de bebidas/comida y llevarlos a la mesa. El sistema de pedidos por teléfono parece ser parte del problema.

A continuación, se entregaron los pedidos para 4 invitados:

BEBIDAS Se pidió una sola botella de vino para dos personas al principio junto con dos cervezas para los otros dos invitados. Las dos cervezas llegaron, pero el vino requirió pedirlo tres veces más y, al ir a buscarlo nosotros mismos, aún nos llevó más de 25 minutos. Cuando estábamos en la barra, el barman discutió frente a nosotros con el camarero sobre por qué la botella no estaba en la barra para que él la entregara. Aún tardó más de 5 minutos en llegar y luego vino con 4 vasos. Mientras tanto, necesitábamos dos cervezas más para brindar con nuestros amigos.

COMIDA: Intentamos pedir 3 platos de wok (2 iguales excepto que uno iba a ser picante) y 1 rosada (picante) y no pudimos hacerlo en el sistema de pedidos. Luego, cuando trajeron la comida de la cocina a nuestra mesa, no sabían qué era. ¿Cómo es posible, nos preguntamos? Cuando preguntamos qué plato era, Water dijo que no lo sabía. Bueno, nosotros tampoco, así que volvió a la cocina.

Cuando volvieron la próxima vez, tenían 2 woks (pero, ¿cuál es el picante que preguntamos?) resulta que no tenían ninguno y que el rosada (tampoco picante). Pedimos el tercer wok y tuvimos que volver a preguntar 2 veces más de 10 minutos antes de que llegara.

La comida estaba bien, aunque no era exactamente como la pedimos, pero estaba bastante rica.

El ambiente es bastante agradable, pero a menos que el personal reciba capacitación sobre el servicio y la comida y se convierta en un equipo que trabaje en conjunto en lugar de unos contra otros, nos quedaremos con Jazzba, Berebere y Boraz cuando queramos un chiringuito grande.

Estando en Torre desde 2015 hay muchos restaurantes excelentes que hacen lo correcto para tener esta experiencia. Imaginamos que es por eso que Masai...

09.2024 Ergänzung. Dieses Mal muss ich leider sagen, daß wir uns wohl eine andere Chiringuito suchen werden. Wir gehen mittlerweile schon jahrelang hierher. Aber jetzt bin ich echt sehr enttäuscht. Warum? Es gibt mehrere Punkte die einfach nicht mehr stimmig sind, seit Rosa und Familie nicht mehr da sind. Der Service ist eigentlich immer noch gut, aber nicht mehr so aufmerksam. Wir waren jetzt 2x dort essen. Leider ist es tatsächlich nicht mehr so gut. Zur Hauptessenszeit gibt es nicht mal mehr Ensalada Rusa. Beim ersten Tag dachten wir noch, wir haben nur einen schlechten Tag erwischt. Aber wenn der Fisch (Bacalao) ungesalzen serviert wird und die Berenjenas versalzen sind stimmt etwas nicht. "Meine" Gambas al PilPil schmeckten nach gar nichts mehr, obwohl ich extra Knoblauch und Schärfe bestellt hatte. Ich bekam eine seltsame Sauce zu den Garnelen und eine tolle Tabascoflasche zu nachwürzen. Ich glaube nicht, dass es das im alten Colonia gegeben hätte. Für die Gäste kann man ja nichts, aber wenn am Nachbartisch eine Zigarette nach der anderen trotz Rauchverbot angezündet wird, obwohl man selbst noch am essen ist, dann ist das unverschämt und der Service hätte darauf hinweisen müssen. Es kann ja auch mal passieren, dass ein falsches Getränk gebracht wird. Alles in allem passt es aber zu unserem Gesamteindruck.

Es gibt aber auch ein paar kleine Lichtblicke, was den Service (Bsp. Yaiza) , die sehr freundlich ist und auch ehrlich meine Kritik hinterfragt hat. Extra Stern für sie.

Neue Ergänzung 13.09. : Nach einem sehr guten Gespräch, bei dem ich Stellung zu meiner Rezension nehmen konnte, wurden ein paar Punkte wirklich beherzigt. Der Service ist wieder 100%ig. Andere Gäste sind mit dem Essen scheinbar auch sehr zufrieden. Vielleicht haben wir auch wirklich nur 2x Pech gehabt. Dennoch vermisse ich einige Stammgäste, die wir immer hier getroffen haben. Schade. Aber vom Ambiente und Service bin ich wieder sehr zufrieden

09.2024 adición. Lamentablemente esta vez tengo que decir que probablemente buscaremos otro chiringuito. Llevamos años yendo aquí. Pero ahora estoy realmente muy decepcionado. ¿Por qué? Hay varios puntos que simplemente ya no son consistentes desde que Rosa y su familia ya no están. El servicio sigue siendo bueno, aunque no tan atento. Hemos comido allí dos veces. Desafortunadamente, ya no es tan bueno. A la hora punta de las comidas ya ni siquiera hay Ensalada Rusa. El primer día pensamos que habíamos tenido un mal día. Pero si el pescado (Bacalao) se sirve sin sal y las Berenjenas están demasiado saladas, algo anda mal. “Mis” Gambas al PilPil ya no sabían a nada, a pesar de que había pedido más ajo y picante. Compré una salsa extraña para acompañar los camarones y una excelente botella de Tabasco para sazonar. No creo que eso hubiera existido en la antigua Colonia. No se puede hacer nada por los invitados, pero si en la mesa de al lado se encienden un cigarrillo tras otro a pesar de la prohibición de fumar, aunque todavía se esté comiendo, eso es indignante y el servicio debería haberlo advertido. A veces puede suceder que le traigan la bebida equivocada. En definitiva, se ajusta a nuestra impresión general.

Pero también hay algunos pequeños puntos positivos en lo que respecta al servicio (por ejemplo, Yaiza), que es muy amable y también cuestiona honestamente mis críticas. Estrella extra para ella.

Nueva incorporación el 13 de septiembre. : Después de una muy buena conversación en la que pude comentar mi reseña, se tomaron muy en serio algunos puntos. El servicio vuelve a ser del 100%. Otros invitados también parecen estar muy satisfechos con la comida. Quizás realmente tuvimos mala suerte dos veces. Sin embargo, extraño a algunos de los clientes habituales que siempre conocimos aquí. Demasiado. Pero nuevamente estoy muy satisfecho con el ambiente y...

A Seaside Gem: Lunch at Restaurante Colonia

If you find yourself in Torre Del Mar, do yourself a favor and head to Restaurante Colonia for a truly delightful seaside lunch. Our recent visit was a culinary journey that left us both satisfied and eager for more.
