Restaurante Esperanto — Restaurant in Valle Gran Rey

We came here a few weeks ago attracted by the high ratings and were a bit disappointed. The restaurant is nicely located with a view on the small harbor but that's about it. The seating outside is a bit cramped and the inside didn't look very nice either. The German owner and the other waiter were very friendly and were quick to take our orders but then we had to wait for almost an hour for our food. The restaurant was not very busy and we were one of the first to order but were very glad that we only ordered a main dish and didn't have to wait even longer for another course. The quality of the food was very good. If you're German and want to feel like you're in Germany, then this is a very nice place to go to. However the owner's English and Spanish was a bit wonky and made communication...

Wir sind enttäuscht von dem Essen und dem Service. Wir haben schon relativ lange gewartet, um überhaupt das Essen und die Getränke zu bestellen. Dann bestellten wir Lammkeule und Rinderfilet. Das Rinderfilet war aus, das passiert ja, statt dessen nahm ich das Huhn mit Curry. Die Lammkeule war keine Keule (vielleicht Übersetzungsgfehler), sondern ein Stück Lammfleisch, das leider knochenhart war, was man schon beim Schneiden bemerkte. Ich habe ein kleines Stück probiert und konnte es kaum beissen. Wir haben es zurück gegeben und die Antwort der Bedienung war, dass der Koch das gar nicht verstehen kann und wir es ja nicht mal probiert hätten, was ja nicht stimmt. Wir kennen uns mit Lammkeule aus und waren sehr erstaunt, wie man es schafft, Lammfleisch so zäh hinzukriegen. Ich hätte erwartet, dass sich die Bedieung entschuldigt, aber das war so nicht. Sie sagte nur, dass sich bisher noch niemand beschwert hätte. Da wir Hunger hatten, haben wir etwas ausgesucht, was schnell ging (Ziegenkäse). Die Bedienung sagte, dass es schnell ginge. Dem war auch so und der Käse schmeckte gut. Ich hatte das Hühnerfleisch. Die kleingeschnittenen Hühnerstückchen konnte man an10 Fingern abzählen, die Portion insgesamt war klein, so dass ich nicht richtig satt wurde und schmeckte nur nach Curry und war scharf. Mehr habe ich nicht geschmeckt. Schade. Als wir zahlen wollten, fanden wir den Käse nicht auf der Rechnung. Immerhin etwas. Aber die Bedienung hat nicht etwa gesagt, dass es ihr leid täte und sie deshalb das Ersatzessen nicht berechne. Erst als wir aufstanden, um das Lokal zu verlassen, hat sich die Bedieung entschuldigt. Von guten Lokalen - und es kann immer mal was schief gehen- sind wir anderes gewöhnt. Dahin gehen wir sicher nicht...

I cannot explain how good food here is. We were here for a second time and when we came to La Gomera, the first thing we decided was that we are GOING to this restaurant. The fish/potato/grill vegetables dish was so good I am even thinking about it now. Everything else we tried was amazing. Thank you so much, your quality of the food and taste is spectacular.
