I’ve been coming to Jávea for around 15 years now, and Montgo Bongo has always been a staple of our visits. Unfortunately, our most recent experience was extremely disappointing.
When we arrived, no one greeted or seated us, despite three staff members walking past. We ended up seating ourselves and had to ask for menus after waiting quite a while. It then took another 20 minutes for someone to take our order, and nearly half an hour just to receive a round of drinks. Every attempt to get a waiter’s attention felt like we were being an inconvenience.
I also tried to explain to our waiter that I have a nut allergy, but he brushed it off and told me to be patient without actually listening to what I was saying. Thankfully, another staff member later took the matter seriously, and I appreciated his understanding and apology.
The timing of the food was also frustrating, my boyfriend’s meal arrived within 10 minutes, but my ham and cheese toastie didn’t come until 25 minutes after he had already finished eating. When it finally arrived, there was no apology, and the food was cold. We didn’t feel it was worth raising the issue again, so we paid the bill, even though the toastie hadn’t been removed or discounted.
What saddened us the most was the general attitude of the staff some came across as dismissive and, frankly, quite rude. It also felt as though non-Spanish-speaking customers were not given the same level of attention or care, even though we do speak basic Spanish.
We won’t be returning. There are plenty of other lovely places nearby, like La Siesta, where the service is consistently warm...
Read moreSince I am not more living in Javea, but close to...., am trying to visit the Montgo Di Bongo whenever I can. This time I went (again) for the paella and it is still the best one you can get in the area. OK, if it is not on the menu, just ask Jose Serrat or Juanito (Alex) and you will be taken care of. When I was reading other reviews of this place it struck me again. The two Montgo Di Bongo`s on TA are the same. Still do not understand why the one that is registered as an attraction is still there. One is registered by the owner, the other one by ....(cannot mention on TA I guess). Back to the resto business, get your .... there, try the food, enjoy the sea, friendly staff and the music that David has prepared to add flavor to your dish..... To conclude, when visiting Javea, Montgo Di Bongo is a must. Really. Special coctail, ask Alex (Juanito), the best paella, ask for Jose or Javi, best music, ask David and the rest will follow. Just relax and enjoy (and try to mingle with the...
Read moreDay 3 of our party, this time in Montgo Di Bongo, first approach to the bartender, and after she realized our friend once called "The Avenger" she was touched and Mendes mentioned 5 times what a generous dosis of gin, he never complements a human being other than himself, first positive about the place. The dancefloor was a problem since it was occupied by some hipsters and it's incorrect that they hijacked the place, "dancefloor should be for everyone, not just for some people" In addition he claimed the weather is pretty good, the status of the divorce is affecting him so much that he believes that they can control the weather, but we give him that now. To sum up, he's having fun, and playing some dices with the sea view behind us. Come, visit and experience the amazing people working at this place. We're celebrating a divorcee party while some are celebrating bachelorette parties, life is unfair, but for everyone, unlike...
