This is one of Jávea's prettiest coves but also one of its craziest during the summer. I've lived here for years and have seen how it has become ever more popular over time, which has its pros and cons. You absolutely need shoes for walking on the rocks in the water or you'll injure yourself. Great snorkeling and kayaking area too. Parking can be found at the roundabout as you arrive to the area. Don't try to drive all the way to the beach as you won't be able to turn around and will have to reverse all the way back, to the amusement of the locals. The first access area is called La Cala de Dins, which most people sort of ignore as it can the miniscule beach usually has a lot of seaweed on it. There are some steps into the little bay and these can be found on the left as you arrive. In 2016, the local authorities installed a hand rail to help people in and out of the water but it's stainless steel, making it impossible to hold on to if you have suncream on your hands - I've seen some nasty falls there.
As you head to the Caleta de Dins, at the end of the little path, there are a couple of other places where you may be able to put your towel although a chair is much better as the ground is very hard. La Caleta de Dins has a tiny stoney beach and easy access to beautiful waters. You can also jump into the sea from the flat rocky area but make sure you know where you're jumping into first - there can be rocks or jellyfish so be careful. As with the entire coast, the area has safety buoys to keep boats out (about 70m out) but it's also one of the areas where boats tend to break the law most and invade the swimmers' bathing space. The local cops do what they can and it's not too bad but keep an ear out. There have been very few incidents over the years, but there have been some...
Not very child-friendly but ideal for snorkeling and kayaking.
Fishing is forbidden during swimming hours, for obvious reasons (hooks) so don't fish there and tell others not to do it if you see them.
As with any popular coastal destination during the summer, it can get a little crazy but it's still a...
Read moreStopped here for a quick drink after visiting the lovely beachfront at this area. So much quieter than the promenade and beach area we had just been to in the more popular area of the town. Spanish widely spoken by the other customers so we thought if this is used by locals then it must be good and this is a little gem. The staff were friendly and attentive and my wife and I were discussing visiting a few times for meals during our 14 day stay as the food looked well cooked and appetising, but for now just a couple of drinks. We asked for the bill on leaving and were presented with a total of 24€ for a vodka and coke and 2 g and it's. At the exchange rate of £1.07 We got in the UK then this works out to £7.47 per drink. I don't pay that in the UK. What really winds me up is that we all know the Spanish wouldn't stand for this level of pricing so there must be a local and tourist tariff. If you're British then avoid as you will be ripped off. If you're Spanish I'm sure it will be great value for money for you. Short sighted business practice and an insult to...
Read moreThis is one of those places that could be amazing, if they actually cared or tried. Giving 2 stars (one for the pool, one for the view) obviously means we had a bad experience. 4 facts to note for all customers - the pool is emptied Tuesday-Thursday for cleaning, so don’t come here for the pool with small children on those days. Two, it doesn’t accept credit cards (cash economy, tax avoidance - if you care about that stuff....I do, because taxes pay for schools and hospitals). Three, the staff really could not care less if you’re well-served, or even if you stay...it’s got a lock on all the nearby tourist rentals, so they reckon they’re OK regardless of service. And fourth, it ain’t cheap - even if it looks like a cheap’n’cheerful chiringuito. Final verdict - don’t go with kids, don’t go on Tuesday-Thursday if you specifically want the pool, and expect waitstaff with attitude. Otherwise a lovely place for snacks and beer with a...
