Booked a table for 3 - outside in courtyard area. When arrived asked if we wanted to sit by the roadside, which we declined, so we waited for a table in the court yard area. This was not an issue as we were seated at a table where originally requested. Ordered food and more drinks. Received only ½ a Pina Colada, therefore went back into the bar and another customer, waiting at the bar, had the same issue. This was rectified, but the food was painfully slow with one starter dish arriving 10 mins after the others. As we were sharing this was a bit of a wait, however if it was a starter for one person then they'd have had to wait, which is unacceptable. 40 mins later the mains finally arrived. The burger was good as was the curry, but with only 3 peanuts in a dish that contained peanuts this was nothing special. The rice was served in a red hot bowl and not turned out before serving. The steak was VERY rare and not medium/ rare, as per my order. Yet again, I had to go back into the bar and return it, asking for it to be changed to a steak cooked as I had asked. The reason I had to go back into the bar is because there were no staff about to get this sorted. The sauce was disappointing also as it was not as described. It was basically a garlic oil, not a chimichuri sauce. I would have liked my meal to be served on a plate and not served on a bread board, I feel this is quite unhygienic. After sending the food back the waitress was not too friendly, making us feel uncomfortable. Our table was then left with no further service, no desert menus or offer of coffee selection plus there were no drinks orders taken during the meal. Again we had to walk into the bar to get the bill paid. The meals were not cheap at all and the only compensation given was for the ½ a Pina Collada that I had to go and sort for myself from earlier . I have worked in restaurants and hotels for many years. This is not a review saying this restaurant is poor, as it clearly isn't but please treat your customers with a little more curiosity keeping them updated if the food is delayed and asking if any more drinks are required. Maybe a proper apology at the table and not a half hearted excuse when paying the bill. Just to note this is not our 1st visit and this is why we came back, as our past experiences have been positive ones. I feel disappointed and saddened as we were all very much looking forward to our evening and meals at...
Read moreI recently moved to Costa Blanca and being a curry addict I’ve been trying curry houses. So far Calpe (2) Gandía (5) Pego (4) Orba (3) Oliva (3) Javea (4) and Benidorm (a 2 and a 5). So when I heard the British owners of Courtyard in Jalón had hired Indian chefs and converted to a Tandoori restaurant I visited for Saturday lunch. Sensibly they’ve started with a short set menu while things bed in, full menu coming soon. Standouts for me were perfect onion bhajiis (so many places struggle with this deceptively simple dish) chicken tikka with a real depth of flavour and the best naan of all the above restaurants, probably because it’s cooked fresh to order and served finger burningly hot. Score is a totally deserved 5, if they can bring this quality to the full menu we will have an outstanding curry restaurant. Enthusiastically...
Read moreTerrible. Never got to sample the Sunday lunch as we waited over 1/2h for a drink and almost an hour for the starter. We had booked a table aswell and it was a special get together with my sister that I hadn't seen for a few years. It really spoilt our sunday and we left at 4 oclock, without the roast dinner and nowhere to go. So angry and upset as the excuses we were given were lame and uncomprehensible. The waiter had put our order in his pocket instead of in the kitchen and the owner Jo, said , that because the clocks had changed, customers had turned up an hour earlier! One person maybe but everyone? I offered to pay for the starter and complementary beer and Steve, without looking at us, said we owed nothing in a way that made us feeltruly unwelcome. Just hope that you don't have the...
