Update: The Owner of this place called one of my friends and apologised for the management's behaviour.
My group of 10 friends (aged 25–30) recently visited Kurumbunz Kandy expecting a relaxed and enjoyable dining experience. Unfortunately, what we encountered was far from pleasant. Despite bringing only one bottle to responsibly share among the group, we were shocked to learn of an unpublished BYOB policy requiring a minimum charge of Rs. 2,500 per person—regardless of what we actually consumed.
Our total bill for food and soft drinks came to around Rs. 12,500, but the manager insisted we pay Rs. 25,000, citing this minimum charge. When we questioned the rationale, we were met with a blunt and inflexible response. Even more concerning was that this policy was neither displayed nor communicated in advance.
To make matters worse, the manager reviewed CCTV footage and, based purely on our age group, pressured us into signing a contract agreeing to the Rs. 2,500-per-head charge. This felt deeply discriminatory and unfair, as it appeared we were being judged not by our behaviour, but by our demographics. The experience felt more like an interrogation than a dinner out.
The lack of transparency, poor customer service, and discriminatory behaviour completely ruined what could have been a great evening. We came in good faith to enjoy a meal, and left feeling targeted and taken advantage of.
I strongly urge Kurumbunz to revise their policies and treat all customers with fairness and respect. Until then, I cannot recommend this place—especially for groups looking for a relaxed, respectful dining...

They do have plenty of Rooms for accommodation which is close proximity to famous historical landmark, the Temple of the tooth relic , you can just walk in there less than 5 minutes. Overlooking the famous Kndy lake and opposite side the great Knuckles Mountain range, relaxing views.

Read more★☆☆☆☆ Disappointing Experience – Locals Treated Poorly
We had a very disappointing visit to Kurumbunkz, From the start, the service felt biased and disrespectful. The tables with the best view were all marked "reserved," so I politely asked a staff member if any were available. He said all were reserved. Moments later, two foreign tourists walked in and were allowed to sit at one of those “reserved” tables without hesitation. When I questioned the staff about it, his response was rude and dismissive.
It got worse from there. Multiple large foreign groups who arrived after us received their food before we even got a drink. We waited over 1.5 hours, and my wife, who is pregnant, was extremely uncomfortable and hungry the entire time. It felt like we were deliberately ignored simply because we were locals. Eventually, I spoke to the manager. To his credit, he was polite and tried to handle the situation kindly, but by then we had already decided to leave.
If you're a local, don’t expect fair treatment here. The discrimination was clear, and the staff showed little respect for us. Definitely not coming back. Extremely...
