I have now been travelling in Sri Lanka for almost five months. How pleased was I to learn that a chain called India Hut existed. However it showcases a fusion of Indian, Chinese and local cuisine. I arrived not long after 18:00 on a Monday evening.
The restaurant is virtually empty, only one other table is occupied in the outside area. Service is prompt. All staff are wearing black polo shirt uniform. The menus are heavy and ring bound laminated in English with the occasional photo description.
In my native U.K it’s a known fact that 8/10 Indian restaurants are in fact Bangladeshi. I’d be pushing my luck somewhat to find anything like this in Galle. I order a lime juice whilst I peruse the menu. I then order a garlic naan, mutton biryani and mutton mughlai. This Shahi mutton curry or mughlai lamb curry is made with onion, cashews and cream which is rich and tasty.
The curry was lipsmackingly tasty and was a tantalising treat for my tastebuds. The biryani was disappointing though. I’ve had hundreds of biryani’s over the years and none of them resembled this! It was mutton curry placed on top of yellow rice. What biryani comes with a boiled egg? I left most of it. I took the mutton from this and simply added it to the curry
Desert came in the form of fruit salad and ice cream. You can’t really mess this up. I also asked for iced cold water with limes. The bill came to 4,040 rupees which is overpriced in my humble opinion. However it’s the closest I’ve had to a curry...
Read moreI recently dined at IndianHut Restaurant in Galle, and overall, it was a pleasant experience. The ambiance was perfect for a calm meal, creating a serene atmosphere. The staff were notably friendly, providing excellent service throughout our visit.
While the food was satisfactory, it didn't quite surpass expectations. The menu offered a variety of Indian dishes, each prepared with care. However, some items lacked the bold flavors I anticipated from an authentic Indian restaurant. The presentation was commendable, but taste-wise, there was room for improvement.
Despite the minor critique on the food, the overall dining experience at IndianHut was enjoyable. It's an ideal spot for those seeking a relaxed environment and warm service. I would recommend it for a casual meal, especially if you appreciate a tranquil setting and...
Read moreWorst customer service ever experienced in a restaurant. The restaurant was a bit busy on Vesak Poya day. Because of that, everyone was standing near the table and when the group got up after the time was over, they were waiting to sit at that table. I have been standing for more than an hour with my family members at a table, when the people got up and sat down, a waiter came and said this table was reserved. At that time, when we said that we also sat waiting for more than an hour, the answer we got was that there is nothing we can do about it, it is reserved. At least they didn't even try to prepare a separate table for us. Finally, a group of friends of the waiter who came there at that time sat at the table. I do not recommend anyone to go to a place that treats customers in such...
