The entire hotel and restaurant are newly constructed within the city, and it was my first visit there. The exterior of the building is exceptionally attractive, and the interior has been tastefully decorated. Mei Rose Rooftop Bar & Bistro, as the name implies, is a Chinese bar and restaurant situated atop the hotel. I dined there with a group of friends after a visit to Liseberg Park. While the restaurant boasts intricate Chinese decor and offers a conveniently accessible and comfortable dining environment, the same cannot be said for the quality of the food and drinks. The pricing of the food is not exorbitant but certainly not budget-friendly, whereas the drinks lean towards the expensive side. One issue we noticed right away was the lack of harmony between the restaurant's ambiance, the music being played (Golden Age Hollywood tunes), and the attire of the waitstaff, which resembled pajamas. It's worth noting that there was a surplus of waitstaff, all well-versed in Chinese cuisine and beverages, yet their service left much to be desired. We ordered a variety of small dishes, akin to tapas, as there were eight of us, totaling about 30 to 35 dishes. The restaurant promotes sharing, which I appreciate, but when ordering separately, I expect the dishes to arrive separately as well. Unfortunately, this was not the case, leading to confusion when our food arrived, and we had to sort out who ordered what. This is a responsibility that should fall on the waitstaff. Furthermore, serving beer in wine glasses is simply unacceptable and not in line with the standards of a luxury restaurant. I experienced this firsthand when I ordered a beer after finishing my wine. The waiter served the beer in the same wine glass, which was quite disappointing for an establishment of this caliber. Now, regarding the food itself, it's challenging to gauge portion size based on the name or price alone. Some dishes were small, while others were of a more standard size, ranging from 75 to 150 SEK. Three dishes with rice were sufficient to satisfy my hunger, but the quality was disappointingly average, lacking any remarkable flavors. This sentiment was shared among my friends who ordered different items; they all seemed to be of the same, unexceptional quality. The drinks, as previously mentioned, were on the expensive side. We paid 185 SEK for a glass of wine and 190 SEK for cocktails that fell short of expectations. They lacked garnish and tasted more like simple juices than well-crafted cocktails. I would strongly advise against ordering any cocktails here. The only drink I can recommend is their Chinese IPA beer, which offered a unique flavor but may not be to everyone's taste. Lastly, we sampled some desserts, but they failed to stand out in terms of quality. While they were aesthetically pleasing (not all of them), the taste left much to be desired. We didn't even finish the baked banana dessert, and one of the desserts had bitter almond chips, which was not to our liking.

Honestly super disappointing. This is a restaurant in a hotel geared for kids and they were not welcoming to my family with a stroller. We arrived right at 5 to try to avoid a crowd knowing it would be a lot with the stroller. We asked if we could sit outside repeatedly but they said no, no food outside. We had to sit in the dining room. Then, despite tons of empty tables they sat a bunch of families around us forcing us to move our stroller around a few times and waking up my sleeping two year old. Honestly just disappointing and sad given the money we spent for dinner. Despite feeling like we were unwelcome with our stroller, we then had to wait and wait in order to catch the servers attention to ask for the check so we could get out of there. Initially we were planning to order dessert for my four year old but once it became clear it was a bit hostile we were just waiting to be able to get the check and go. In the photos you can see the rooftop area is empty and there was another area inside completely empty but they sat everyone right on top of one another in the small dining room. Finally, I tried to complain to the manager and she was kind of hostile about it like oh it’s too late for us to do anything since you’ve already paid for your dinner. Honestly just a very unsatisfying experience when we were hoping for better.

Delicious taste, great service. The low ratings are not justified, things must have changed a lot, I was really surprised with the food quality after having seen the reviews here. I still went as I am staying at the hotel and glad I did so. The server had good recommendations. Soft shell crabs and grilled sirloin were tied for our favorite, but the whole fish was amazing too (might have been too full by this point so couldn’t appreciate as much). Green vegetables were refreshing, noodles very flavorful. The sirloin melted in the mouth. 1.5 to 2 items per person would have been plenty, we got 3 per person but having a teenager paid off for the extra food. We asked for hot sauce (not needed but we like it spicy) and they brought in two types, a hot oil type (very spicy) and a pickled type. Only thing is it felt like some extra salt was sprinkled on most things and we could have done without that, so ask to go easy if you don’t like salt much.
