Great food! Great atmosphere. However the service wasn't top notch. The menu is based on a smaller dish concept whereas we were expecting a dish at a time. Instead we were overwhelmed with all drinks and food dishes at once. Our table was smack full if plates and glasses with different drinks. No really guidance to what we should have eaten first. Mixing cold and warm dishes. We all wanted to eat the cold dishes first leaving the hot dishes cold. It made it all kind of stressful and didn't give us time to fully enjoy the food or drinks. It felt like the servers were very new and inexperienced. I assume and hope it will get better with time considering the restaurant is newly opened. Food was great. Big shout out to the chefs.
I had "Pölsa". Never had the original version. This was good and an experience. I don't think I would order this again though. Secondly I had the "Skellefteplanka". AMAZING. I would order this again. The meat was cooked to perfection. The croquet was really tasty and what ever was under it has a great smokey flavor that really went well with the rest of the dish. Finally I had the "Älgkebab". I would absolutly order this again. The bread was soft and tasty. The kebab was so well seasoned. I also got to try my friends "Skålen". It was super tasty and the depth of flavor in the broth was so good she had to drink every last drop from the bowl.
Will definitely go back to try other courses. I feel like I need to try everything once not...
Read moreRestaurant Mandel offers a pleasant and high-class dining experience in a relaxed, Scandinavian fine-dining setting. The atmosphere is both cozy and stylish, making it a great choice for everything from casual gatherings to special occasions.
The seasonally inspired menu focuses on sustainable, locally sourced ingredients, and dishes are thoughtfully paired with a well-curated wine selection. Standout plates like the “Skellefteplanka” or “älgkebab” are flavorful, beautifully presented, and full of character. The food emphasizes quality over quantity, with smaller portions ("mellanrätter") that invite you to explore multiple tastes in one meal.
Service is friendly and attentive, striking a nice balance—present when needed, but never intrusive. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful when choosing from the wine list or menu.
Some guests note that the portions may be on the smaller side, and the pricing reflects a fine-dining standard, which may not suit those expecting a hearty meal. On busy nights, the pace of service may vary slightly, and wine could be served at a warmer-than-ideal temperature—but these are rare exceptions in an otherwise polished experience.
In short, Restaurant Mandel is an excellent choice for food lovers seeking a refined, locally rooted culinary experience in Skellefteå. Expect great atmosphere, creative cuisine, and thoughtful service—just be ready to enjoy several small plates to complete...
Read moreWe had come here with high hopes. However, the experience was underwhelming and costly. They write at the top of the menu that the portions are small, so you can get to try more dishes. I am not a fan of purposely starving the customer so they can order more, but regardless, their approach does not reflect at all on the price, which remain expensive, even compared with other top restaurants (especially considering this restaurant sits in a building owned by the Kommun, and should hence at least try to be accessible to the general public, but that's a personal note). Regarding the food itself, this establishment does not quite "get there" in the same league as other top restaurants. The food was mediocre, the presentation on the plate was more for show than for actual taste. Some of the ingredients seemed literally straight from ICA' shelves, and served without being prepared in any special way that justifies the hefty price tag. Their wine selection is decent, cocktails not so much. I am not deterred by prices when I decide to treat myself with fine dining, but this is the first time that I really feel robbed. Swedish cousine deserves better. I give them 2 stars; one for the service, which was neither outstanding but nor terrible, and one for the exclusive location, which offers a comforting view of Skellefteå other restaurant, Bryggargatan, where we could have...
