I stayed here for two nights with a friend while hiking in the Anniviers valley. Auberge Alpina is what it is, an Auberge (ie. basically a hostel) with some double rooms too. ||||We slept in the bunk room and everything was as expected. The pillowcases are changed after every customer and the linen covering the mattresses were clean too. You're requested to bring your own sleeping bag liner, as in all hostels, and the blankets are the usual felt kind. Shared bathrooms were spot on clean and shower had plenty of hot water. Ah, and the wifi; fast and reliable.||||The staff were very friendly to us and happily stored our larger bags in their storage room for a few nights which we spent hiking and slept up in the mountain huts. Upon arrival to pick up our bags, we were even able to toss our laundry into their washing machine & dryer for a small fee. Made a huge difference, as we both had yet another week of trekking ahead of us.||||We also had the half-board, simply out of practicality. The food on dinner was tasty, it's not a Michelin star restaurant, but tasty yes. Breakfast is just like everywhere else in that region: bread (fresh though!), fruit, juice, cereal & milk + coffee or tea. But it was always nicely laid out, with home made jams and a huge chunk of fresh butter on the table, just like someone else previously described here. ||||All in all, the experience was positive and given the price level of Switzerland, I think this place offers good value for money. If you want more comfort and privacy, there are plenty of hotels to choose...

Read moreGiven the high ratings we booked at the Auberge Alpina with high expectations, but almost none of them were met.||The room we had (closest to the top of the first flight of steps) had two single beds. My bed had a box spring but no mattress(!). Both beds had filthy comforters but we fortunately brought our own sheeting.||For dinner I chose the Thai Beef Salad, but was shocked when it arrived as the beef was raw. The chalkboard did not say "cru" to indicate that. I did not touch it and it was unceremoniously taken back to the kitchen. I ordered another dish which was OK, not spectacular. Incredibly, the manager said I had to pay for both dishes. I did to avoid a scene and because my wife was with me, otherwise I would have told them to pound sand.||I gave two stars because the wait staff in the evening was friendly. Only the managers are ______s. The location is quiet, too, but my recommendation is...
