Grotto del Cavicc — Restaurant in Circolo di Carona

Great place for family gatherings, offering lots of domestically sourced wine, cheese, and meats. Service was responsive and helpful, and the ambience is perfect for relaxing get togethers and events with the family. Make sure to call ahead and make a reservation as they tend to get very busy. They have a good selection of Polenta and grilled meat all year round, but the prices are not very forgiving.

I detracted one star because of several small annoyances: the bench were we sat was wet with some kind of cleaning product, and stained our clothes. during the Summer, it is ruthlessly full of mosquitoes, and the tiny citronella candles did nothing to deter them. while the service was responsive, they messed up two of our orders, giving us and charging us for something we did not order, and getting my mother sick for a couple of days.

Excellent all around Lugano dining experience! Our family decided to go last minute and despite being a busy dinner time, the owner (Reto?) was able to seat us. He was very welcoming and both he and the staff were helpful in making entree and wine selections. The patio ambiance is relaxed and charming - we'd never been to a grotto, but the ambience was exactly what we'd hoped for. We opted for traditional dishes, which were delicious. I highly recommend the pork cheeks... Thanks Reto and team for providing a very memorable first night in Lugano. We won't hesitate to go back and explore more of the menu in such a great setting. I would definitely recommend a visit to anyone...

Wonderful, atmospheric restaurant that used to be one of Hesse's favourite haunts. The personnel was kind and cheerful -- the food served promptly. Varied menu that ranges from fresh game to vegan dishes. A cute little detail -- they have one of those tiny book exchange "libraries". Plenty of parking space for those driving...
