Osteria Lanterna — Restaurant in Circolo di Mendrisio

Atmosphere is really good, very cozy and authentic. Service is ok, nothing extraordinary. As for the food, first of all everything was really fresh and quick. Though I personally feel that it was too plain and lacking of seasoning. Also feels like recipes are quite simple that is not bad but I wish it has more flavor. But maybe that how its done here, since it was cooked properly. I would say duck was little bit chewy, pasta feels like homemade, beef was ok. Overall I would suggest visiting just for the atmosphere and a good glass of wine. Prices are high but not too much comparing to big...

What an incredible experience! We went to Osteria Lanterna to celebrate our 18th anniversary based on the sheer volume of glowing posts on here about the restaurant and the attentive responses the owners provided, and it did not disappoint. The atmosphere and service was impeccable, and the quality of courses was top-notch. My only regret was that my Italian is not good enough (yet) to best share my praise with the proprietor, who makes the rounds to all the patrons with charm...

Food is great but be careful when ordering your meal. I had two kids and we asked if there’s a kids meal. They recommended that we order a steak good for two. Same way for for me and my wife for a grilled seabass since a single seabass is good for two. I am surprised when i saw the bill. It was 2xprice of an adult steak and 2 x the price of the seabass. Not happy...
