Gazelle d'Or — Restaurant in Geneva

Ethiopian food is one of my wife and my favorite foods to eat out. This was our first time at this restaurant and we arrived right as it was opening for the evening. The decor as shown in my pictures and referenced by many reviews was one of the best I have seen in an Ethiopian restaurant. We used a BuyClub voucher which was a great deal that included a half bottle of wine, appetizer and three meat dishes. That said the food was just average. The injera was cold as if coming from the refrigerator and was very dry and easily fell apart. The meat dishes were pretty good but the vegetarian dishes usually our favorite were almost without flavor. I gave it three stars due to the friendly wait staff...

I have been going to this place for several years now. I always liked the atmosphere and the food which is very different / exotic. Last time, I was a bit disappointed, staff was extremely slow and not attentive, didn't quite understand neither French nor English, no towels for cleaning the hands upfront were handed out and we needed to wait for everything if not claim it several times. Food was more sparse than usual (quantities are generous normally) and less tasty too. Especially the meat Samossa were unpleasant. They didn't even ask us how we liked it (I would have told). Hopefully this will be back...

We were very pleasantly surprised by our experience at La Gazelle d'Or. The waitstaff was warm and welcoming, checking in on us frequently but never making us feel rushed. The sambusas served before the mains arrived and were hot and delicious, fresh out of the kitchen. We loved the fish and the doro wet, which came a little spicy per our request. The other tables were mostly full and the cozy atmosphere was especially nice on a cold, rainy night in Geneva. Try the traditional coffee to end your meal. I'm looking forward...
