Pâtisserie Mage Boulangerie à Genève 1208 — Restaurant in Geneva

Mage is just next to my place and we would often buy breakfast there as well as order cakes for family events. I have had recently an experience similar to another reviewer when I tried to order a cake for my daughter's birthday with no success. First, I came on Friday afternoon to order it asking whether I could pick it on Monday morning just before 8 o'clock as the school starts at 8. The person told me that the responsible was not there and suggested that I contact them on Saturday. I was not in Geneva for the weekend so I called on Saturday morning and explained the situation. I told to the lady that it did not bother me if the cake was prepared on Sunday and then we would just pick it on Monday morning. She still did not take my order as the mysterious person who could confirm this arrangement was still not there. She told me to call back again (no offer along the lines: "Let me check and get back to you"). When I managed to call back on Sunday morning I had yet another person on the phone who upon checking with the colleagues said that I was too late! The bakers would leave soon so they could not make it on Sunday anymore. She said they could still do it on Monday morning, but I had to pick it from 8 onwards. When I explained the situation that the school starts at 8 and asked if it would be possible to pass at 7:55 to pick it, she said that it would not be possible. This is not the first time that I see this lack of client oriented "service" in Mage and attitude along the lines: "We are making you a favor here". So I baked the cake myself, and saved 100 CHF and will be reluctant to return there. I would suggest to the management to think how to make service more client oriented. Voilà plus de 15 ans que je suis client très régulier que ce soit pour de grands gâteaux avec décoration ou juste la partie pâtisserie. J’apprécie aussi le fait que le magasin soit ouvert les jours fériés. Ma note est une moyenne entre la partie commande gâteau et la partie pâtisserie vente à l’emporter.

La raison est simple, depuis que l’équipe de la vente a changé, les règles d’hygiène en ont pris un sacré coup. Systématiquement les employés prennent les croissants et pains aux chocs avec les mains (18 fois sur les 20 dernières visites, donc ce n’est pas un accident sauf si je manque vraiment de chance) alors que la pince est devant eux. Un employé m’avait même demandé où était la pince avant que je le lui montre. Un autre m’avait même répondu qu’il avait des gants, sur le coup j’avais pas la patience de lui apprendre les règles d’hygiène de base. Un gant est utile s’il est porté pour UNE seule activité et ce pour une courte durée. Mais lorsqu’un employé fait toutes sortes d’activités (servir, nettoyer, ramasser, toucher les poignées, terminal de carte,….) alors ce n’est plus qu’un accessoire cosmétique. En réalité il est plus sale que des mains puisque les mains on finit par les laver de temps à autre… Et il ne faut pas me répondre en disant que les employés ne font qu’une activité avec leur gants ou les change régulièrement, ce serait faire preuve d’une mauvaise foi évidente. Je vais revenir bientôt pour voir si quelque chose va changer et du coup espérer changer ma note.

PS: autre souci d’hygiène, on ne doit pas nettoyer les tabelles en verre du haut dans la vitrine alors que les gâteaux sont juste en dessous, j’ai vu une employée faire ça et jeter les miettes du haut sur les gâteaux en dessous…

Mise à jour: suite à demande auprès des services d’hygiène du canton, on me confirme que les mains nues et les gants sont autorisées, à condition que les mains soient lavées avant ou avec des gants propres! Mais qu’il ne cautionne pas l’utilisation des gants qui ont servi à toutes sortes d’activités puis qui ont servi à manipuler des aliments. Donc merci de faire une mise au point avec les employées ou une journée de formation pour l’utilisation de la pince. You can select from a small selection of ready made cake or order from many options in advance. We especially like merenguesque cake, it is creamy, rich and with a little satisfying crunch. It is a relatively small shop and under covid measures only 4 people allowed inside, but line usually moves quickly and orderly, but expect up to 15-20 minutes wait during rush hour.
