Hotel Chartreuse (formerly known as the Italian Lifestyle Hotel) is a short walk from the Lake Thun waterfront. A small grocery store just across the street is very convenient. The building, patio and grounds are well-kept and neat. Annemarie cheerfully let us check-in early though we arrived just after noon. The room was clean and quiet, and the bedding delightful – with a down comforter on each half of the comfortable double bed. Dinner at Chartreuse was exquisite! Ates, the Hotel and Restaurant Coordinator, recommended the best wine we’ve ever had (which is saying something!), a red blend from Tuscany, to pair with the delicious food. He invited us into the cool, dark cantina stocked with Italian wines to retrieve the bottle. We had a delicious three-course dinner, including yummy, crusty bread, a fennel leaf salad, roast rack of lamb, sage butter ravioli stuffed with Italian sausage, and tiramisu dessert. Our servers, Elena and Lorena, were delightful and engaging. Ates kept our glasses full of the delicious wine throughout dinner. He even offered us (gratis) a glass of Passito Del Vecchio liquor afterwards. Clearly, it gives him joy to see to it that his customers have an unforgettable experience! In the morning, we enjoyed a fabulous buffet breakfast at Chartreuse, with Annemarie ensuring we had everything we wanted, even making eggs for us though the breakfast layout is serve-yourself. We will definitely be returning to Hotel Chartreuse and Osteria da Pasquale when we travel to Switzerland again...

The hotel is exceptionally clean and the rooms are spacious and modern - no tea or coffee making in the room but there is a good coffee machine on the first floor landing with a fridge with canned drink and bottled water you can help yourself to as well as a fruit basket - a lovely touch. Breakfast was very good with a selection of fresh breads, cheeses and cold meats as well as fresh fruit, cereals etc and the waitress makes fresh boiled eggs on request. The hotel has a spacious free car park which is a plus as parking in Thun can be expensive. Very friendly owners that provide a welcome pack with a discount card that includes free bus travel locally so you can park the car up in the hotel and go into town for the evening. Would suggest a room at the rear in summer, you wont get the lake view but it could have some traffic noise if you left your windows open. Three small supermarkets within a couple of minutes walk and the lake is only a few minutes away on foot and there is a pick up point for the boat service...
Read moreA warmer welcome you could not find anywhere in Switzerland. Pascal really went out of his way to make sure our needs were met, and gave us personal recommendations on things not to miss.||The hotel is in easy bus reach of Thun, and just across the road from the bus stop. There's no lift so the heavy suitcases up the stairs were a challenge, but not serious. ||We had a side room that faced onto the forest and next door greenhouse, whereas other members of our party had lovely mountain views.||Our room was quite small but comfortable enough with lovely warm, thick duvets. The bathroom was fine, only problem was the shelf in the shower that gathered a lot of water so there wasn't really anywhere to put your soap or razor.||Breakfast was good, really nice selection of fresh fruit and berries, breads and cheese and cold meat, cereals etc. We could also have boiled eggs. Wonderful coffee!||The restaurant is worth trying but is quite expensive.||I would definitely come here again, there is so much to experience in the area so 4 nights was not enough. ||The hospitality in itself is worth...
